Fabric Leader

I am going to be purchasing a Sr2 frame for my Juki machine. I bought a Juki 2010q on ebay for a great price. I want to buy leaders for the Sr2 and there is a $30 difference between the Grace leaders and Handiquilter leaders, Grace is more expensive. Can I use the Handiquilter leaders on my Grace frame as long as I buy the right length?

I had a grace frame, and now have a Handi-quilter. My Grace frame came from KathyQuilts with leaders they made (not from Grace). I don't recall if the Grace were attached with velcro, but I think they were. Handi-Quilter are attached with velcro.

You may want to consider if you want to use something like Red Snappers, as they may need a specific type of leaders. I just pin and can honestly say I don't think there was as different in the use between the two. I've not had any issues with the Handi-Quilter, and don't recall any with the ones on the Grace frame.

I sometimes rent time on the long arm at the LQS. I made my own leaders using duck fabric from Hobby Lobby and I absolutely love them. And, I got better fabric and paid a whole lot less for them. In the beginning I did it so I could do my pinning at home and not have to pay for that time at the store. But I found it had another advantage. I did not have to finish the quilting in one session. I could just take the leaders off the machine and put it back on the machine at the next session.

I also made my own with a large stripe duck type fabric, love them and they were LOTS cheaper than buying ready made ones! I made 2 sets, one for smaller quilts and another for the larger quilts.

The lady who makes the leaders for Kathy Quilts is my co-worker. She makes them a the store where I work. The fabric that we have right now, is the BEST we've ever had. Kathy Quilts is still selling leaders for the SR2 frames. You can get them from http://www.KathyQuilts.com.

I made my leaders from muslin and they work fine.

I bought my Grace leader cloth from Amazon and they were quite a bit less than the price on the Grace frame website.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to order the Handiquilter leaders or try making my own. The only difference I can see between the Handiquilter is that it doesn't come with the velcro that attaches to the rail, but does have velcro on the leader.

Is the Velcro easier to use than the fabri-fast system?

I have some handi quilter leaders looking for a home. Never used they were given to me by a thoughtful person who was cleaning out her craft room and thought I could use them. I don't know how many are in the bag. If you can use them PM me. I just want them to find a good home
