fabric medium for colored pencils
 

I am in the process of doing a label for a wedding quilt and want to color the wording on fabric with Prismacolor pencils and don't want it to fade after a few washes. Does any one know of a good fabric medium for protecting the color when using colored pencils on fabric. All suggestions will be appreciated.

You might consider using Derwent inktense pencils .

I already have the Prismacolor pencils and don't want to purchase any more as I don't plan on having a lot of use for them. I only have these because they were a gift and I tried practice coloring the label and it is coming out nice but I want to make sure the color doesn't fade after washings.

I went to a class on coloring quilts after quilting. We used clear aloe vera with Derwent inktense pencils. But the instructor said plain colored pencils work too. Any will fade a tad after each wash but it will take a while to be noticeable.

I assume you paint the aloe on after you color ? I have a bottle of Aloe that I keep in the refrigerator
for burns.

What is the difference if any between the brand I have (Prisma color)and the Derwent.

I learned a lot in that class. We used the aloe to make the fabric wet before coloring and several other techniques using dry fabric and other mediums. It all depends on what end results you like.

I just want to set the color so it doesn't fade.

If the fabric thread isn't saturated with wet color then the dry color is on top of the fabric threads and will wear off. In class we heat set the color to last longer.
