Fabric nicer than first impression?

Have you ever bought a piece of fabric that wasn't exactly the best fabric you have ever felt but the color was a perfect match, think Walmart type fabrics, only to find after you washed all the processing chemicals out of it that it turned out to be pretty nice fabric? I just ran into this with 3+ yards of cotton from the thrift store. It is a burgundy mini print and it was only 1.00 a yard but it was so thin I almost left it there.

I wash all thrift store fabrics and when I pulled it out of the washer it was no longer 'see through' thin but kind of crisp. I'll check for shrinkage when I get it out of the dryer, but it didn't look much smaller. It was 3.25 yards when it went in the washer.

Those chemical finishes on many fabrics will "get" you every time!
