Ok, I've got a question for everyone. How many of you do some fabric painting on some of your quilt blocks or even the majority of your quilt?
I was or still am an painter at heart, so sometimes my quilts get painted on.
We moved to a new house about a year ago and the other day I came across some blocks of different birds that I had painted but have yet to set into a quilt (another quilt project that needs to be done) I had forgotten them.
I might finish getting things unpacked one of these days

Ok here are a few. They are kind of wrinkled and some don't show up well on my dark couch, but here goes.

A few more + some flower blocks

The first picture the Blue Bird is supposed to be the center block. I was making the quilt up in my head as I was painting the blocks. I also found some orange blocks with flowers and butterflies. I apparently had intended to use them along with the birds and flowers. I wish I had wrote it down because now I don't remember just how they were supposed to go. I'll come up with something sooner or later.

Lovely! I love your birds. Do you do them freehand or do you paint with a template or iron on or something?

A friend of mine used to paint wood projects like a child's play table and sleds and stuff she sold. She did everything freehand.

I am not a painter but my kids are. Both my sons can draw beautifully and my daughter likes to work in oils but she doesn't have a lot of time now with three kids.

I think painting would be fun but another one of those some day when I have time projects.

Will look forward to seeing more!!

You're quite the artist. These will make a beautiful quilt. Can't wait to see how you set them. Oh, and I've also found that writing things down is a good idea. LOL

Good luck with the unpacking. Those painted blocks are a great "find". It's always nice to discover something that has gone forgotten. It's like having another project to work on... which is probably why I still have boxes to unpack almost 5 years later....

BTW - the painted blocks are beautiful.

Your birds are gorgeous! They are going to make an incredible quilt.

I've played around with Tsukineko inks. Their All Purpose inks and Fabrico Pens are non-toxic, completely permanent and totally washable. It doesn't change the feel of the fabric. I haven't worked it into a quilt yet, but it is a fun medium.

Those are very beautiful! I have painted on fabric for quilts in the past although yours are so much nicer than mine were! LOL. I sometimes trace a design in the fabric and enlarge it, then reproduce it for a center square. The last one I did as an applique. I haven't painted in awhile.

I think a nice multi-colored floral fabric would look really pretty with your blocks.

Please be sure to post again when you finish it! :)
