Is it completely "no" to say combine a cotton print with a soft suede and/or chenille? It is just that the color I want is soft suede and cotton, and I saw some chenille that was great also.

It is your quilt, make it however you want it. :-D As long as you are happy it will be lovely.

You make the rules for your project :-)

Rules? What rules?

It's quilters choice. You do whatever you want to do. It sounds yummy. We want to see when you're done.

Just remember that chenille doesn't wash too well. The strands tend to pull out if not handled carefully. (At least that's my experience with store-bought chenille.)

check out vintage crazy quilts? cottons, silks, velvets.. total mix up. Its just how you wash them later that things need to be looked into. you follow I think (key word) the directions for the fussiest of the fabrics. Hand wash probably or dry clean only.

I pick my fabrics according to my likes and how the quilt will be used. A utility quilt may not be the best choice for delicate or dryclean only fabrics, unless you don't mind the cleaning bill.
A bedquilt that gets gentle use would open up more choices.
A wallhanging is pretty much in my mind an anything goes, as to fabrics.

thanks all for your input - it's for a quilt that I hopefully can make king size - nothing like starting in the middle and working your way out, right?

Do what you want. It's your quilt and it sounds like it will be great.

Yes, I agree. One reason is because of different amounts of shrinkage.
