I give my snippets to my sister and she uses them for her crazy quilts! She is in the process right now of making a whole quilt out of the snippets I give her. Nothing goes to waste. She keeps everything I give her in a large basket. There are a few that are even too small for her - I throw!!!! Doesn't bother me a bit! I figure if she can use what I have and can't use what is left over, no one can so it can't be good for anything, especially the birds! Edie

Has anyone seen the pattern or tutorial for the mile a minute quilt blocks? Make up these blocks on a day when you just want to do some mindless sewing, cut out your blocks, then make them into shelter mats (you can even machine stitch the whole binding!)....it sure beats laying on that hard concrete, and you can practice your FMQ on these little projects too! Dogs and kitties are not very critical at all! A local shelter would appreciate the donation, and many of them do send the mat home with the new adoptee!

I throw all that small stuff away as soon I get it. Frees up space for new yardage that produces new small stuff that I throw away for more new yardage. It's all part of the "circle of life"...;-)

I have bags and bags of snippets. I just can't seem to throw them away.

Thanks for all the ideas.

This reminded me of a friend of mine that recently moved. She saved all her too small pieces. When she got enough she went to work cutting them on the cutting board and then fused them to double sided steam a seam and then to another huge piece of backing fabric and then layered it with (sorry I can't remember the name) colored wedding vail type netting and used it for a back of a quilt or wallhanging. It was different but kind of pretty.

Quilt Jelly! Cute idea and NO COST I've seen that steam a seam with the netting and that looks really COOL.

If I have fabric I won't use or need, I'll pass it on to someone else. I've even bagged up scraps/odds and ends and donated them to a charitable organization's garage sale. The very first quilter that saw them - bought them - $$$. That way they 'lived on'!

I have a box full of collars and cuffs, lots of trimmings from squaring up block, etc. Help!

Me thinks:

Take a big breath.
Maybe pour a glass of wine or two?
Open the trash.
Fondle the scraps a little.
Try not to cry.
Start dumping...
Rifle through, JUST IN CASE you missed a pretty.
Pull a few out to be starters for the next scrap bin.
Close the trash.
Open again in case another pretty wriggled it's way back to the top.
WALK AWAY!!!

Seriously now: I think using for stuffing for animals, pillows, pincushions, etc. wouldn't be a bad idea.

Deedles...love it!

Now that is a good idea, I'm heading to the backyard to toss a bag as soon as I get away from this computer!
