International travel allows 2 bags checked free. At least that what the Delta policy is. I would have bought more fabric in Kuwait, but we were leaving for an African safari the next week and I didn't want to carry more heavy luggage. I did buy a small duffle bag and bought 3 yards of one fabric and filled the rest with pashminas ($3.50) for gifts. Great shopping in that very wealthy city.

My understanding is that soldiers are not allowed to leave their bases to go to the city.

Wow! I paid "our" prices in Maui. We've been talking about Kuwait for our next trip. Maybe I'll just take a teeny tiny bikini, and pj's, wash my "only" outfit and that should give me lots of room in my suitcase for fabrics! I'm going to Kuwait for sure! What's the name of the shop?

Not sure of names other than they are souks. One huge souk we went to was Heritage Souk but I dont think we bought fabric there. Bought lots of pashminas there and ate food! Souks have lots of different "stalls". Had to look for cotton. Quite the place! Dont try driving in Kuwait. It is a demolition derby in every sense. Scared the water out of me! Oh, by the way, you cant wear a tiny bikini in Kuwait! Lol. Really though.

Yes, the UK has very high prices for fabric.

Wonder how much shipping would have been?

mckwilter 08-14-2013 09:07 AM

Shipping cost from Kuwait is not as bad as shipping cost to Kuwait.

Wow, Knitette, that's still double for a mere 3 more inches, here. $21.? I purchase fabric when it's on sale or I can get it with a coupon. I go to estate sales and thrift shops and try to get big people clothes.

With prices like some of you have to pay maybe that is why I keep stocking up - it's an inflation hedge. When it gets as expensive as $21.00 per yard I will have lots of the "cheap" stuff.
