I had several of my tubs of fabric stored in our basement and the basement flooded. Some of the fabric became wet inside the tubs and I didn't realize it. Now some of it is molded and mildewed. Any suggestions for salvaging it. Thanks!

 I feel your sadness. About the only thing you can do is send it all through the wash machine and see if it comes clean. Maybe you might have to cut out the mold/mildew part that did not come out in the wash.

Oh, no! I have used amonia for mildew, works great!

I found a great stash several weeks ago that was terribly mildewed
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-120833-1.htm I found washing with detergent, white vinegar and a heavy solution of baking soda and water, and then a very hot dry was the trick. It still smells when coming out of washer but the hot dry solved the problem. I have just finished pressing this huge stash. Good luck with your reviving your stash. |
^^^I was gonna say when you make cheese and the rind gets mouldy, you wash it with a vinegar solution, so perhaps try that?
I've been washing funky-smelling fabric all morning that I got in a batch. I don't think it got wet, but OMG it's stinky! Blech. |
I wouldn't hesitate to use bleach on stuff that is ruined otherwise, that is if you've tried the other stuff and it doesn't work I'd give the bleach a shot. If it slightly changes the color I would rather that then throw it out, but that's me, you may feel differently. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Also if you can hang it out in the sunshine that helps for the odor too. |
Sorry about your situation. Good luck on the salvage. You can do it.
