I have plastic bins of fabric and had cedar balls etc in them to help with any storage problems, when my DGD said why not use a disposable diaper as they have dessicator pellets in them to keep the babies dry. It seems to work great.

You learn something new everyday.I never heard of this one before.

Remove the cedar balls, they will discolor the fabrics...... Not long ago I read on a someones blog/site that cedar chest are the worst place we can store our quilts. Recommends for archival papers is top on the list now.

I heard that about cedar too - interesting about the diapers.

I never would have thought of the diapers. Great idea.

Some medications have desicant pillows in with the meds, I have begun to save those and throw them in with my stash and with the new fabrics I have not cut into yet.

New use for diapers, thank for the ideas.

The dessicant packets that come in packaging with electronics and medications work perfectly well, are much smaller, and do not have the dioxins, sodium acrylate, TBT, VOCs, dyes, fragrances, and petroleums found in disposable diapers. Something to consider.

Very interesting...I will save those things in the medications...

How do you know all that stuff? I always thought a diaper was just a diaper, boy did I just learn that's not the case!

Isn't the QB just wonderful!

Diapers have all kinds of chemicals, that is why some babies have a sensitivity to them  :D:D:D
I would make sure that the diaper stays folded, don't know what the inside part would do to fabric over time...

I agree!

I'm gonna just try to sew all my fabric up , so I dont have to store it long enough to worry about this issue...

I know it will never happen.... but it sounds good to me!

There have been several studies investigating a possible link between the chemicals in disposable diapers and the increased incidence of childhood asthma and other respiratory diseases.

Most diapers contain polymer crystals, these are non-toxic and used for a variety of applications. They should be safe for fabrics.

Here is a link about them:

The polymers used in diapers are the same ones that used to be used in tampons...until the early 80's when it was revealed that they increased the risk of toxic shock syndrome (TSS). Diapers are packed with chemicals in addition to just the polymers. http://www.realdiaperassociation.org/diaperfacts.php

Just a little hint for those of us that don't have little ones in diapers....you can pick up a package of 3 diapers at the dollar store and some walgreens have a "sample pack" of their generic brand.
