Which fabric?

3 Attachment(s)
I'm making a quick wall hanging for my daughter's bedroom and would appreciate any help with which fabric to use next. The sunflower fabric I've had in my stash since 2011, and would like to use it up! Any suggestions please?
Sorry, I haven't pressed or trimmed the block down. It will look neater here soon.

I like the tan flowers with green background.
The pumpkins seem too intense, and the blue seems to clash with the aqua in the block.
But that is just me.

MadQuilter 04-13-2017 10:29 AM

The middle one. It reminds me of a lake in the meadow.

DogHouseMom 04-13-2017 10:33 AM

Sunflowers.

Vistacruise 04-13-2017 10:43 AM

The sunflowers just make sense. Go with those.

rl2b-Roseanne 04-13-2017 10:52 AM

I would go with the middle one, tan with sunflowers. Very cute ~smile~

i like the last one... since a waterfoul theme, i think it goes the best

grammasharon 04-13-2017 11:34 AM

I like the way the sunflower fabric lets the block shine.

nativetexan 04-13-2017 12:54 PM

out of all , the sunflowers look best. cute block.

Jane Quilter 04-13-2017 12:56 PM

I choose the sunflowers.

Maureen NJ 04-13-2017 12:57 PM

I love the middle one with it but I think I would like to a deeper shade of blue (aqua) for the bottom triangle below the duck.

sewbizgirl 04-13-2017 01:18 PM

For the subject matter of the block (duck on water) I think I'd look for something else entirely... like trees. Sorry to be a pain in the behind.

bjchad 04-13-2017 01:59 PM

Of these three I would definitely use the sunflowers.

joe'smom 04-13-2017 02:11 PM

Of these three, I actually prefer the pumpkins for color and intensity, but what's a duck doing in a pumpkin patch? The next best is the sunflowers I think.

cashs_mom 04-13-2017 02:35 PM

I"m not a fan of the pumpkin fabric. I like the sunflowers the best, but the last one is okay, too.

I agree with sewbizgirl. I think the duck will float best on fabric that does not have a strong theme. I would go for a plain background and add interesting quilting to go with the theme of the duck.

BrendaK 04-13-2017 03:29 PM

I think that this would look great with trees around it. It would be like a lake in the forest. If not that then the sunflowers. Cute block. BrendaK

I like the fall colours of the pumpkins, but not the print. A duck in a pumpkin patch just doesn't make sense to me. I like the way the colours accentuate the duck, though. I think a print of trees in autumn would be great. (...it's helpful when people suggest fabric you don't have, right?)

Of the ones you have, I'm torn between the colours of the pumpkins, and the appropriateness of the sunflowers. Either would be good. I really like your duck, though! It will be great in any setting.

Yooper32 04-14-2017 04:37 AM

Another vote for the middle one.

quiltsRfun 04-14-2017 05:18 AM

I agree with Jennifer. The colors of the pumpkin fabric really highlight the duck block but the pumpkins aren't right. In my opinion, neither of the other two choices work as well color wise, but their subject matter is better. I'd look for something else.

NZquilter 04-14-2017 05:42 AM

Thanks for all your suggestions! I agree with you, a tree fabric would be perfect, but unfortunately I don't have anything that will work...*sigh*.
Do you think a homespun red checked fabric would work? Kind of make it country looking? Just another idea.

Kitsie 04-14-2017 06:50 AM

I like the blue third one. Nice duck!

klswift 04-14-2017 07:39 AM

I like the sunflowers. The green and yellow pick up the green and yellow in the duck and all the other tones balance nicely. I think the blue check sort of disappears and the pumpkins don't really say 'I'm with a duck'. BTW - nice looking duck!

Jennifer23 04-14-2017 08:11 AM

Ooh, the homespun red check sounds like a definite possibility! I would like to see that.

Jordan 04-14-2017 08:31 AM

I like the sunflowers-seems like a nice background

Bjbaxter 04-14-2017 09:07 AM

If you want to use it up, then the sunflowers. I would probably choose (from my stash) something that doesn't compete with the center block, like a tone on tone or a sort of woodsy type fabric.

pewa88 04-14-2017 09:24 AM

I agree with BJ. I would choose a muted tone on tone in a neutral color, especially since this is to be a wall hanging. I really like all of your printed fabrics but they do not frame the duck block, they distract. Really like the duck block too.

JanieH 04-14-2017 09:29 AM

Of the three shown, I like the sunflowers the best. But I like Jennifer23's (post #20) suggestion of the fall trees.

wildyard 04-14-2017 11:49 AM

Could you put the blue check on the top half, sky like; and the sunflower on the bottom half, meadow/pond like? I'm thinking I would like the looks of that.

tessagin 04-14-2017 12:17 PM

The middle fabric!

zozee 04-14-2017 08:10 PM

Do you have more of the brown that you used in the duck? If so, how about trying it on the bottom half (like the banks of a pond), and a pale blue up top? Not sure the florals are right, but the blue check works.

LOL I was thinking the same but then a duck might be served around thanksgiving along with something pumpkin.

Greenheron 04-15-2017 04:47 AM

I think the pumpkin material sets off the duck block the best. If you were making a naturalistic piece the pumpkins would be incongruous but in this context they're just another pattern.

I like the neutral color as a background idea. But how about a tiny border around the duck block in a very dark - - almost any fall color. Love your duck.

mountain-moma 04-15-2017 05:36 AM

Sunflowers

pal 04-15-2017 06:12 AM

I would make a binding out of the scraps from the wall hanging and make the hanging on point I think that's called piano keys. Or bind it in the aqua. You did such a good job on the duck - the other fabrics may distract from that.
