Fairfield Natural Cotton Batting question
I see that JoAnn's has Fairfield Natural Cotton batting on sale. I'm not familiar with this brand. Does anyone know anything about it? I usually use warm and natural/white and like that. How might the Fairfield compare to that. Thanks for your input.

I remember Fairfield from years ago as thin and likely to shred/bunch up if not very closely quilted. I don't believe it was needle-punched (like Hobbs, for instance) which would help to make it a bit more stable.

I'm using a Fairfield cotton batting right now. Sorry I don't remember if it was called "natural cotton batting" or not, but it is all cotton. Anyway, it was so thing my fingers would poke through it when I was layering the quilt sandwich and it would easily pull apart when I was trying to spread it. Never again.

Thanks for the feedback. When a price is too good to be true it usually is. Think I'll pass on the special. If I put that much work into a quilt I want it to not only last but not be a headache to work on.

I used Fairfield 80/20 batting. I had no problem with it.

Jan in VA I agree. When I used it years ago, it wasn't the best of quality. I would stick with either W&N or Hobbs. Hobbs is sold by the yard at least at my local JAF. It is fold twice so it is less than 36" roll !! |
I saw it at JoAnn's too, and kind of wondered if it was any good. All of the packages were sealed up pretty tight, so it was impossible to touch it to see if it was worth it. Glad I didn't buy it. I usually watched for the batting by the yard goes on sale for 50% off. Then I can use my teacher discount to knock another 15% off. I just buy the whole roll at one time, since I hate to keep shopping for the batting.
