Fairy frost

I am making some fabric microwave bowl holders for gifts and I wondered if any of you quilters know if Michael millers fairy frost fabric can be used in a microwave?

If it has metallic threads I would say no, but you can always put a piece in the microwave and see. It will spark immediately if it's metal. Just shut it off right away and it shouldn't hurt the microwave.

EDIT:
There are some of the Michael Miller Fairy Frost fabrics that say they are 100% cotton (shipping June 15th); they are dimensional. Others are flat or dimensional & say they are pearlized cotton metallic -- which definitely would be dangerous in the microwave. -- or glitter, which has the potential to melt, fall off everywhere & generally make a mess (you know how I know). You can check by each color at: http://www.michaelmillerfabrics.com/...iry-frost.html

The bigger question is how well that kind of fabric will hold up in the wash -- especially the multiple washings required of that kind of product. I usually go lower budget with that kind of stuff.

I would be so careful. I put my china in the microwave and it lite up like the 4th of July. No damage done but sure scared the you know what out of me! Just didn't think of the silver rim!

I ironed Fairy Frost while piecing and my iron must have been too hot--the fabric stuck a little and distorted. I'd vote "no" to using it in microwave bowls or hot pads.

I also ironed Fairy Frost and it stuck to my iron.

Well, I have selected a different fabric. You all just confirmed what I was afraid would happen. Thanks to all.

I love the fairy frost fabric and had no problem ironing it.

I wouldn't use it in the microwave. I didn't know they were for the microwave I thought they were to be put in after the food was nuked.

Because of the finish, I have always ironed the original Fairy Frost from the back (have never bought the one with glitter). I agree - don't think it would work in the microwave.
