Fall Tree Art Quilt in progress and advice on how to face a quilt?

Hello everyone! I am looking forward to Fall and cooler weather.

I made this tree in a guild workshop. The variety of tree color fabrics are backed with fusible web and ironed together to form the tree. The teacher showed a spring scene around her tree. I am creating a Fall scene with some of my favorite things about Fall....mum flowers, pumpkins, straw stacks and scarecrows and will stitch lots of colored fall leaves on the branches and floating in the background. Before I embellish the quilt with leaves, I first have to quilt the background. (may be with swirls ) The scarecrow will stay on the haystack and I found an owl to place in the open space of the tree.

If anyone has a good tutorial on how to Face the quilt, please share your advice or a link with me. Thank you!

I know I'm going to sound dumb for asking this, but, what does "face" mean?

Facing is kinda like binding, but you pull it so that none of the binding is visible from the front of the quilt. This means that you sew four separate pieces of binding (for a rectangular quilt), and don't need to mitre the corners.

If you scroll to the bottom of the linked tutorial, you can see how it looks on the front and back :)

OleaBlossom, did you forget to post the link! I have used this method from Marci Baker and did a big quilt with it.

Ah-ha, so 'facing' is just like finishing a hooked rug.

I didn't know either! Had to watch Mandyrose's link!

The link Mandyrose put up is great. I have another at home that I will also post if I can find it. I also use a line of glue before I hand sew the back down so that I can keep it perfectly straight with a ruler edge.

Very nice quilt!
