alisonquilts 12-07-2012 12:55 PM

I'm not sure what you mean by a fancy pin - for wearing? for sewing with? for using to decorate with? Could you post a picture?

Alison

mike'sgirl 12-07-2012 12:55 PM

Do you make them? How?

patski 12-07-2012 01:01 PM

I don't know what fancy pins are either. That is why everyone is just looking!!

Tartan 12-07-2012 01:11 PM

Are you talking about the fancy pins for pin cushions? I have made a few for decoration only, with a corsage pin as the center and a few pretty beads added. I know that someone mentioned not to send pin cushions through the mail with pins in due to a postal worker getting an owie.

BellaBoo 12-07-2012 03:49 PM

What dumb bunny would mail a pincushion full of pins in a paper package?

Marilynsue 12-07-2012 03:53 PM

I would like to see pictures too. This might be interesting, but would like to know more about them.

LivelyLady 12-07-2012 04:23 PM

I, too, am wondering about these pins. Would like to see a pic and know how they are used.

lynnie 12-08-2012 04:30 PM

O.k. so i make them out odf corsage pins or longer.
Can be used for quilting but if you have a pretty pincushion
You might like a nice pin to put in it.
I've decorated mine with glass and crystal beads. Have purchased some from the scrapbook section, or just added cute fimo clay toppers or even made tops from shrinky dink material. Wish i could post a pic for you, no camera.

My sister-in-law makes something like you have described. She uses them for hat pins. They are sure pretty, but I have never known what to do with them. I don't wear hats and they don't look too good on ball caps. :) (She wears large brimmed, protection from the sun, straw hats...or I think they are straw. Guess I don't know what they are made of.)

I can see one looking good in my pin cushion though. Wonder where I put the one she gave me...

I'm not familiar with these either...but I think Fancypins might be a cute name for someone to use on the Quilting Board! I did a Google search and there's info out there...here's a link to some pictures.

[QUOTE=BellaBoo;5704823]What dumb bunny would mail a pincushion full of pins in a paper package?

OK, no name calling. I would stick the pins in a small square of fabric and mail them in a padded envelope. No pincushion required.

These are some of the fancy pins I have made for decorating pin cushions. I usually just take something I think is cute and hot glue it to a flower quilting pin. The others I just make out of beads. Not sure this is what you are talking about.

I worked at the PO before I retired, you would be shocked at what people mail!! Expensive gifts in the type of box for under the tree, some complete with wrapping paper and get upset when it gets crushed!! Yea, they are out there and they breed!

lauriejo 12-09-2012 09:15 AM

I have thought about making some of these, but didn't know where to get the really long pins that didn't already have a fancy top.

Here are some of the fancy pins from the florist. The ones with the pearl tops are corsage pins and crystal ones are from the sparkle that some florists add to roses. I have much prettier fancy pins in a pretty pin cushion in my sewing room, need I say more? Yep, can't find them but I put a couple of small beads and a charm on the grey pearl top pins so you can get the idea.

lynnie 12-09-2012 10:23 AM

Those are the kind im talking about.
i have a pretty crystal canndlestick with a white pin cushion on top, pearls and rystals. I put my fancy pins in them.
i love them

cherrio 12-09-2012 10:24 AM

too pretty for me to feel ok about using! I like them alot just wouldn't use them to sew with.

eyes 12-09-2012 10:38 AM

I have a few I received in pin cushion swaps and they are so pretty but I wouldn't use them. I just look at them and smile. :-)

Rann 12-09-2012 10:56 AM

I have some hatpins I have collected to put in a couple of antique hat pin holders. I think they are longer than a corsage pin.

luvstoquilt 12-09-2012 01:38 PM

Sounds interesting...really wish you could send pics.

lynnie 12-09-2012 04:01 PM

Look back a few pgs.

craftymatt2 12-09-2012 08:16 PM

They look and sound gorgeous

Greeter Eva 12-09-2012 08:35 PM

Well this sounds interesting. I have several corsage pins. Think I'll try & think of something I can do.

Common sense disappeared a long time ago when electronics arrived on the scene. All we need is a thumb.

I don't know. But probably not anyone in this thread, including the OP.

Me, I'd stick the sharp ends in a cork, or nestle them in tissue paper inside a plastic travel soap box.

Rats....I thought you were talking about brooches. I really don't have space for these cute pins. An exchange could be fun.

lynnie 12-17-2012 07:52 PM

You could always exchange the brooch pins, they look great as a pc decoration. And of course you must wrap the pins safely.
I just took it for granted that they would be.

lynnie 12-18-2012 03:14 PM

I have a pretty pin, not for sewing, stuck in a pc. Makes it nice.
i just bought a jewelish button an making a black velvet pn with the button, whitr rhinestones and silvertone metal.

I love the mouse pin at the top right of the pin cushion! That is so cute!

Seems like you should be able to assume that!

I think these pins are lovely, but I am afraid that I would be another who would not use them, and (given my housekeeping tendencies) they would soon be invisible under a thick blanket of dust. And that would be sad.

quiltjoey 12-18-2012 09:01 PM

Not enough time for sewing much less making pins, at least at my house...LOL!!

lynnie 12-20-2012 03:06 PM

I heep my pc from swaps or just gifts on a shelf.
Thats where my pretties are, up there safe from my kitty...for now
