Farmer's Wife Quilt book?
 

I see on-line 3 versions of the book. One is a 2009 version, the 2nd is a 2015 one and the third is the Pony Club one.

In your opinion, which is best? Clearest instructions, good pictures, less mistakes, etc... I'm veering towards the newer 2015 one, but would value your opinion. :o

Some reviews suggest that the later version has different blocks than the earlier one. True?

I see that the 2009 version has some reference to the 1920's while the newer is titled "1930's" so I wonder if just the fabric is the difference or are the blocks also?

I'm glad you asked this question, because I also want to know. I started to buy one of the books, but got confused when I saw how many different ones were out there.

Can you ask the publishers what the difference is? Or go on Amazon.com and look thru all three versions? Or one of the book sites?

I have the 2015, but am not familiar with the other two you mentioned, to compare.

Update: My local library has the 1920's version and I have placed the 1930's one on hold so may be able to give us all the answer soon. Have checked all I could find on Amazon and google but pictures are not clear enough for the 1930's one.

Bummer, I always thought that a newer version was updated version. Good luck with checking out the library copy.

They are three different books by the same author, Laurie Hird. The first one is letters from farmers wives from the 1920s; the second book FWS Pony Club is letters from children trying to win a pony from the local newspaper; the third FWS 1930s is again letters from farmers wives from the 1930s. All have different blocks set beside the letters, the first and third are 6" finished, Pony Club 9" finished. All have a CD to print out the patterns for rotary cutting, template piecing, or paper piecing.

The letters are very interesting (especially to this city girl). I did the first 2 and am now doing the 3rd with a group here on QB. I've become a much better quilter/piecer since doing these--they really do build your skills.

Thank you so very much, janRN, for the explanation!! I have borrowed the 1920's version from the library and think I will do that one. The only nuisance is having to load up templates one at a time and print out one whole page for each! Any ideas for making this easier? I enjoy Freezer Paper piecing.

Having done Jane Stickle's quilt I am looking forward to more sampler blocks! I will buy the book next Social Security pay day!

Jan I think the Pony Club blocks are 8"...I remember this because the 9P variations are not neatly divisible by 3. Lots of different blocks in the 3 quilts...I don't think any of them are repeated...correct me if I'm wrong Jan.
