Our church ladies group will be making crib quilts for an orphange in Ethiopia in the fall. Does anyone know some easy patterns etc ?

our group at one time used the pattern from Kaye Woods and for the life of me I can't remember the pattern. I know you started with a large triangle in the center with top, batting, and backing and then started sewing around the whole thing to enlarge it. 3 layers. If I remember the name I'll answer back sorry but can do one a day

When we did orphanage quilts, our homemakers group used bright doubleknit fabrics - some of you may remember the pants suits we all wore - and serged them. Mostly Trip Around the World. Then they were layered with a high loft batting and pillow-case turned and tied thoroughly.

Laundering is pretty vigorous over there. We wanted the quilts to last.

I'd recommend a simple block pattern of block all the same size, such as charm size (4" or 5" unfinished).

Its called Kaye Wood 6 hour quilt and you can use up alot of scrap fabric with this one.....goggle it

My group made self binding blankets, no batting. They are perfect for hot weather climates. We used one piece for the front and one piece for the backing. We made them all sizes from newborn to twin. We sewed X down the middle for the bigger quilts. I don't have the instructions to to put as a download right now. But found this free tutorial.

Some on Etsy are selling the instructions but they have been free for years online and made for decades as receiving blankets.

I believe she calls it The Six Hour Quilt.
