Fat Quarter Challenge
 

My guild is doing a fat quarter challenge. Each member receives three fat quarters from another member. They are to make something and give it back to the member that gave them the fat quarters. Any idea for a pattern for three fat quarters? You are able to add fabric if your pattern requires additional fabric.
I have a pattern called "This and That", but need more ideas.

Have you looked at Wall hanging quilts?? The fabric you end up with might give you some inspiration. There are free patterns listed here that might work: Spinning Monkey or Soul.

How about a pin cushion?

Choices I can easily recommend: placemats, table topper of center piece, purse, tote, microwave bowls, potato/corn microwave pouches, or wall hanging. Also, picture frames, small organizer, tissue holders. You could even make a collection of small bags, each bigger than the one before using metal measuring tape closures or zippers. The small bags would be useful for travel or sew-ins. This is just a beginning list of ideas.

How about a pocketed "apron" to fit under and in front of the sewing machine...add a small needle case...those divider organizers that fit on a coffee cup are nice, too. A small fabric box.....

I was a guest at a group that did something similar to this; but, the FQs also included a request for a specific item in return (ie. pillow, bag, wall hanging, surprise me, etc.). The creativity was amazing.

A nice set of pot holders or one that has pockets on each end.

The lqs sells a combo pin cushion/thread catcher that sits on and over the arm of chair/sofa etc. Personally, I would love to have one of these. They sell the pattern and or the actual item. Just an idea...
