Hello Everyone! http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons...animal-007.gif
Well, I got my Joann flyer last night and noticed they are having a FQ sale. $0.96 each! So of course, I'm already thinking of a new quilt! I want to try and make the Double Irish Chain quilt from quilters cache: http://www.quilterscache.com/D/Doubl...ock_Page3.html However, I have no idea how many FQ's of each color I would need to make, say, a 60"x75". Can anyone help me out with this? http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons...animal-032.gif Thanks! |
by my calculations (and we all know how great my math is haha) this is what I came up with:
Color one - 8 FQ's Color two - 5 FQ's Color three - 14 FQ's And also by my calculations, it might possibly be cheaper to buy yardage instead! haha Does anyone have any great FQ patterns? |
Well, with FQ's you may end up with more waste, and needing to buy extras. If it were me and I could find yardage I would probably go that route, especially if I were only using 3 colors. In the flyer do they have a 50% off coupon too? 50% off one of the lengths would help drive down the price of the other two....
|
They have a couple 40% off's. But I always buy the sale fabric haha
There are just some really cute FQ's I want to get and I dont have any ideas for a quilt to use them with |
I remember reading in a different post that members had a lot of trouble getting the sticky wrapper of their JoAnn FQs. If you decide to go that way, make sure and try if the labels come off without leaving residue.
As for the amount: Do you know how much yardage is required? Each yard = 4 FQs. Just do the math. |
Thank you for your advice. I will look into that first before purchasing. Thats a good tidbit of information to know!
And thanks for the one yard = 4 FQ's....thats also good to know :) |
Also with JoAnn's FQ's it's not a full 18"x21". The ones that I bought and returned were around 16.5"x19".
If you buy the yardages and have many coupons, depending on who's cutting and at the register, they will use all the coupons on one transaction. I would ask first before cutting. |
I have had terrible luck with fabric from Joann's the color always bleeds and rubes off on to my sewing machine even after washing.... So be extra careful.

Squeakers1 Cindy Oh wow, I havent had that problem before but will definitly keep my eye out for it. Joann's is the only place I buy fabric from. (I'm cheap haha) |
ok..I have tried to figure out the yardage I need for each color and I cant seem to get the math right.
Has anyone made this quilt (the double irish chain) that can tell me how many yards I need for each color? Thanks! |

I spoke to the Joann's employee yesterday I asked what was the point of getting the home flier if you could just pick one up in the front of the store. She said if you get the flier at home and the coupons on the net and the flier at the front of the store you can use all three on one order (three items). Otherwise you can't use two front of store coupons at once. Does that make sense?
|
That really doesn't make sense. Just because they are from three different sources doesn't change the fact they are the same coupons. Silly rule.

I've never seen a coupon IN a JoAnn's store. The impression I got was that one could use three coupons (from different sources - they are supposed to have different bar codes) on three different items with one purchase. |
I don't know how large of a quilt that you want to make but I have the yardage requirements for both the single and the double irish chain.
The following requirements are for the Double chain, Baby quilt: 1 yard light, 1/2 yd. medium, 2/3 yd. dark Lap: 1 1/2 yds light, 3/4 yds. medium, 1 1/4 yds dark Twin: 2 yds. light, 1 yd. medium, 1 1/2 yds. dark Double: 2 1/4 yds. light, 1 1/8 yds. medium, 1 7/8 yds. dark Queen: 2 2/3 yds. light, 1 1/4 yds medium, 2 1/8 yds dark King: 3 yds light, 1 1/2 yds. medium, 2 1/2 yds dark I hope this helps! :D |

Not sure if I am replying correctly but the reason they tell you to get the coupon on line and the flyer from the mail and the store is because the UPC codes are all different. You can not use the same UPC code more the once per purchase. |
Our Joann's flyers in the store do not have the coupons in them. This happened to a lady while I was in the checkout line so I gave her one I was not using and she was so happy. That was my good deed for the day.
