Do you have a fav. quilt shop that will go out of the way for you? I just found one. I had a hard time finding a feathered heart stencil for quilting my quilt. This shop was tring to find one for me after I went to 4 other shops. They to are having a hard time . I found one but it is papper and I need to make a plat. one but I'm having a hard time of it. so the shop told me to bring it in so they could do it. And get this with no charge. they even said if they had had the stencil they would have let me use it as long as i needed it also no charge. I found my shop.

Quilt4U...do they have an online addy??I have one here too that I just love. She lets you shop for hours and hours and leaves you to drool..look, think...so wonderful. Anything she will help...answer, order...and, there I could live and never go home:))LOL This store is Quilter's Harvest. We are lucky in we have many all different directions. I find in the more expanded quilt stores here, they don't talk to you or make you feel as if you could ask a question...and we always end up here at this one. Again, and again:))I'd about move to be closer:))LOL

My favorite is Prairie Quilts here in Wichita. It's small, jammed packed to the rafters with fabric, the ladies are monumentally friendly and knowledgeable. they also have a huge ol' siamese cat (my favorite) that greets customers and keeps an eye on things but he doesn't like to answer questions :) he's more the strong silent type lol. If I know a storm is coming whether it's ice, snow or rain, they know I'll be showing up to get some goodies! The Turning Twenty quilt they helped me put together turned out incredible. It took us 3 hours to pick everything out but nobody batted an eyelash or acted like I was taking too long. I think I need to go visit them this weekend!

My closest quilt shop is almost an hour away. They are very nice and have special ordered many things for me and are always willing to go the extra mile. They will help you search for fabric or will leave you alone to shop by yourself-what ever you want to do.

I used to work in a quilt shop--now that is FUN!!! You get to fondle, drool, etc all day. And people bring in their projects (gorgeous) and ask for advice. You get to see a lot of neat quilts and learn from the customers too. It is a dream job-but you lose money-I spent my whole paycheck and then some-but oh, what a stash!!!!

Seriously, at our quilt guild meeting last night I passed out business cards for the gals and really bragged them up - they are just new and getting started and are really nice and helpful and run an AFFORDABLE shop!!

WOW! What an awesome shop. I;'m gonna have to go elsewhere for fabric. Walmart here is getting worse & worse for helping people. Get this.... I was told yesterday by fabric manager/friend that soon they'll be cutting out fabric too cuz according to Walmart, the fabric area is too time consuming? Cutting fabric? Taking time to actually talk to people. I"M NOT HAPPY..

Yes, my favorite is about an hour away. They let me drool all over their store, stay as long as I want, help me if I need it or leave me alone if I don't. They let me pull out bolts and pile them to the ceiling to play with them. They even "babysit" my DH while I shop! I love it that I can call her when I've forgotten to get something and she will so sweetly just drop it in the mail for me! They are very nice, encouraging & supportive and have all the niceties like the sew & tell sessions, lots of classes (some for free)...just wish I lived closer so I could go to those. Its in Jackson, TN.

Oh, wow. I feel like I live in the promised land when it comes to quilt shops. My town has a population of 2,000, three quilt shops and four longarmers...none big enough to have online stores. Just a bit down the road, however, are some major players with fantastic goods. A day of fabric shopping in this area can last the whole weekend!!

I think that's the one my mother in law visits from time to time to get things. She doesn't quilt, but she does embroider (hand) quilt squares. I'm thinking that's where she gets her quilts longarmed too. Not sure, but I remember her mentioning that shop and she said she would take me there next time I visit. She works at St Francis Hospital, but lives in Independence, KS

I have two here where I live that I go to at least once a week even if it is just to look and get inspired..."Beverlys" is one and the ladies are so nice a friendly and very helpful the other is "to quilt and sew" again very helpful and most of the time the gals that are shopping will come along and help with finding stuff for me and give their ideas and opinions on fabrics etc....I love a good friendly shop....

i LOVE Front Porch Quilts in Ozark, AL. Whenever I would visit my parents in Dothan, we would drive to Ozark - we only got there once a year, but Melanie remembered me each time and really really really spent a lot of time with me. She had some unusual stencils and templates and notions/accessories that i have never seen before. Also, GREAT old southern home with original flooring and character (not to mention front porch!). nor'easter--You are SOOO lucky to have so many great, varied shops so close by. I miss the tactile fun of a visit to a brick and mortar quilt shop-with the price of gas these days I do not get to go very often any more-it is just too far away.

This thread reminds me that I am totally spoiled :oops: When DH and I go into Omaha, we have a route: Hancocks and Joann's (a couple of blocks away from each other), and the 'Center St. bunch' - 2 Viking dealers, the Country Sampler and the Log Cabin quilt shops all within about 10 blocks of each other. (There's also another Hancocks right in there, but I prefer the other one.) My absolute favorite is Country Sampler for eye candy and a gorgeous array of fabrics. Right here in Council Bluffs there is Kanesville Quilting, great for classes & Thimbleberries fabrics. There are a couple of other shops around here I haven't even visited yet.

I've made a note of the Wichita shop - DH's brother lives near there, and I feel a road trip comin' on :lol:

I went to Creations in Kerrville while visiting son and family in San Antonio at Christmas time. The weather was great, we also went to the James Avery factory. Here in Orlando there are several, let me know when you are coming to town and I will hook you up, Cindy

When I lived in Chehalis, Wa...I literally had 3 quilt shops within 15-20min drive and WalMart was 10mins.
These quilt shops were varied in what they carried (which made for a great selection), all were friendly and had resonable prices. Even WalMart was a great place for cheapy fabric finds and had nice clerks.
Now I live in Tacoma and I have a small quilt shop about 5 mins away, another 10 mins away and a couple over 35mins away. These people are somewhat friendly, selection isn't the greatest, classes arent advertised readily...so I am somewhat dissapointed.
I thought when I moved to a big city my quilting/emb/scrapbooking options might be greater. Boy, am I dissapointed. Still have JoAnns (have you seen some of their new lines).
I am going to try to shop more online (can you believe it)...

My fav is the one I have been going to since I bought my 1st embroidery machine from them over a year & 1/2 ago.

They really treat their customers good! And they are only 3 miles from home!

I live about a forty five minute drive from Amish country ....Berlin, Ohio.....lucky there...love to look at the wonderful quilts they do....I also go to a shop here in town... Vacshak and another one in a town about 20 minutes from here called Nonna's love them both...always looking for the next big sale...true quilt bargain hunter....huh.... :D
