I have a rowenta and it won't shut off, when I turn the dial to off position. I have to remember to unplug it, I've probably had it for 5 or more years and otherwise it works great. I have a couple of cheaper irons also and save them for backups. I see no reason to pay more for an iron, if cheaper one goes out fast buy another, just luck of the draw.

I just purchased a shark from Walmart about a year ago. It works great for me

I have several irons some up to $70.00. My favorite is a $10.00 Wal Mart iron that DOES NOT have an automatic shut off ! I hate that my iron has turned itself off and is cold when I use it so much .

Yes, I can definitely see the perks of having a cheapie you can run out and replace for $15 tops. I also thought I needed a Rowenta because everyone talked like they were top of the line but now I'm not so sure. I went and got a $15 Black & Decker tonight but I may still check out the more expensive so I have one of each and can compare...plus I'll have a back up in case one dies on me! Thanks everyone for all the help, I certainly appreciate it. :)
