Two of my favorites are Rail Fence & Trip around the World. These go by so fast and are so easy to do... Please share your favorite patterns, I'm fairly new at quilting (began Jan. 2010) and would love to know the favorite patterns of some of you pros!

Sadiemae 11-29-2010 01:13 AM

My favorite quilt patterns are Bargellos. I also like super easy quilts.

Momma_K 11-29-2010 01:27 AM

Any kind of easy PP, Chinese Coins, Split Rail, 9 Patch...You can hardly go wrong on these! They may be favorite easiest but I love Grandmas Garden, a bit more difficult.

fayza 11-29-2010 01:38 AM

Is grandma's garden the pattern that looks sort of like honey combs? I love that pattern, but its a little too complex for me. lol

plainpat 11-29-2010 02:07 AM

I'm not a pro at all, just like making quilt tops.My favs are Log Cabin & anything with stars.I like most applique, but can't do hand sewing,so just admire when I see it.

I've made lots of Yellow Brick Roads, Turning Twenty, and Crazy Eights. I want to learn to applique soon, but I am still gathering the supplies for this technique.

:D Yeah it looks alot like honeycomb. I done most of mine by hand sewing. I sat through many hours teaching my grand daughters how to sew and put the "flowers" together. They get very proud of themselves when they see what they can do. They're only 11 now, this was about 2 years ago I tought them to sew. Both can now use the machine with no problem!

I like the log cabin. It's quick and easy peasy.

Renee110 11-29-2010 05:15 AM

I just starting quilting 2 months ago, so I only know the 9 patch, 4 patch and triple rail. But the ones I WANT to do are dresden plate and double wedding ring.

Jan in VA 11-29-2010 05:17 AM

I agree with others who like the log cabin -- in ALL its incarnations, round/twisted/courthouse steps/offset/etc.

To me the log cabin block is most effective with a minimum of 5 logs cut no more than 1.5" wide to finish at 1" wide. Also I feel it's more interesting with light/dark contrasts or with graded colors (from very light to medium on one side of the block, and medium to very dark on the other side of the block).

The log cabin block is just a half-square triangle, so any design - such as an eight-point star - ccould be made using log cabin piecing, just larger.

I love the French braid pattern. I've done two and choosing fabric for a third. Maybe that's what I like best (LOL) is choosing all those fabrics.

gollytwo 11-29-2010 05:33 AM

Jacob's Ladder
Storm at Sea
Blockade
are my three favorites

vjengels 11-29-2010 05:35 AM

Nine patch , and Log cabin for me; with an Ohio start thrown in for good measure.

maryb119 11-29-2010 05:36 AM

I like Log Cabin blocks and Feathered Stars, basically, anything with points.

sewTinker 11-29-2010 05:39 AM

I really love the disappearing Four patch. I've made several blocks in that pattern. It's just Too fun. Haven't made a quilt yet because when I saw the tutorial (on this board), I was already committed to other things. However, a quilt in this pattern is in my very near future.

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-55564-1.htm

also, the disappearing 4-patch pinwheel is calling my name.

Take a look at the easier wedding ring--will have to look up that book--cannot remember the name!

I REALLY like the disappearing 9-patch--so easy and looks complex!

Brickwalk is pretty easy--so are Woven Ribbons and Jack's

clem55 11-29-2010 06:18 AM

I think the GRANDMOTHER'S FAN IS REALLY MY FAVORITE, BUT I LOVE THE LOOKS OF THE BRAID TOO..

Connie in CO 11-29-2010 06:36 AM

My new favorite is the Twister.I'm going to start cutting out the 10 inch squares soon.

featherweight 11-29-2010 07:18 AM

My favorites are Stack & Whack, and my Avatar bargello.

sueisallaboutquilts 11-29-2010 07:50 AM

My true favorites are the old patterns but now I'm getting addicted to all the new ones too!
I'd have to say Log Cabin and Irish Chain (and a bunch of others lol)

auntmag 11-29-2010 09:41 AM

When I started quilting many years ago, I did the Drunkard's Path alot. I made my own templates for whatever size block I wanted, usually made 12 inch finished blocks with 3 fabrics.

Edie 11-30-2010 04:35 AM

I lost something here, oh well! I like Quilter's Cache 12" blocks, no paper piecing and no applique'. The quilt I am working on right now has 48 blocks from Quilter's Cache and I love every one of them. Each block has only three colors - I found that also in Quilter's Cache. I try not to make them twice. I print out the pattern and if it is a good one, I mark it so, if not, I keep it, but mark it "no". At least this way I feel like I am learning something new with every block and will progress according to my timing (that is, when I darn well please). Edie

I have been considering doing the irish chain pattern.... I love the pattern just don't know if I have the patience. Seems like it would be fairly simple I mean its all squares, but no doubt I could make it complicated.

That is a great idea! I love the quilters cache website. I have a binder full of blocks I have printed off. If you get a chance you should take a look at the one called hanging diamonds. I am just itching to try it but figure I should get more experience first.

I love, love, love the cathedral window but at this point (only been quilting about a year) I have absolutely NO desire to attempt it. LOL It is a beautiful quilt!!!

fireworkslover 11-30-2010 06:31 AM

I think OBWs are my absolute favorite. I just love the way you totally change that original fabric print into something totally unexpected. Also that each one will be different from the next even if the same fabric is used.

Oh, My Goodness - I love it! Doesn't look too hard. I can't make it with this quilt, but hey, how about a - preface here - my mother is giving me money for fabric for Christmas in lieu of perfume of which I have enough of - and I have been thinking of a table topper (not the runner), placemats and napkins. Would that be a neat pattern or what? Thank you very much for telling me about that one. Eleven inches would make for a nice size also. Edie

ann clare 11-30-2010 01:47 PM

Log cabin is my favorite

annyroony2 11-30-2010 02:43 PM

Log cabin

sewingladydi 11-30-2010 03:32 PM

Scrappy bowties and kids quilts with pinwheel and applique

pattypurple 11-30-2010 03:37 PM

My favorite "hurry up" quilt is Warm Wishes. I also like to make scrappy strip quilts. Most of my quilts are for charity.

Every single one I've made is my favorite. Then I quickly move on to my next favorite. I think I like scrappy quilts best, and I make them in traditional patterns.. There is just something so homey and comfortable about a nice cozy quilt.. I love to look at the complicated, the art, the perfectly planned, but I love to make the old favorites..

What a great idea, making your own sampler from quilter cache blocks.. I love that website. I go there when I just need something to strike my fancy!

oldhag 11-30-2010 09:34 PM

Bears paw and variations of them. I like blocks with lots of pieces. They're like jigsaw puzzles with fabric.
