what is your favorite rotary cutter? Which one is the easiest to change the blades one??

My favorite is the Martelli rotary cutter. Easy to hold, easy to change the blade, and my hand doesn't cramp. I also broke down and bought the cutting mat, expensive but worth it.

never heard of that. right now I use fiskars and its good untill i have to change the blade!

I agree - I resisted getting a Martelli Cutter - already had several Olfa's in different sizes and styles, a Fiskars and another brand given to me I haven't even opened - but got a Martelli for a friend with Carpal Tunnel problems. She raved about it. Shortly after, got tendonitis - went back and got a Martelli - its made left handed and right handed, is ergonomic, held differently, no price discounts, slight learning curve to use properly. It is a great investment - it is worth it to me - can cut longer without fatigue, prevents the tendonitis, has sharper and longer lasting blades I think when using their brand etc. No, I don't sell them or get a commission, lol.

I JUST GOT A MARTELLI CUTTER AND MAT I LOVE IT

I like the Gingher weighted rotary cutter and their blades are teflon coated. For easy and fool proof blade changing, the new Olfa Quick Change Rotary Cutter is the easiest and it's a good cutter. I have the Martelli mat and but not the cutter. I've used one and it's very nice.

I use a 45 mm olfa. But not the skinny straight handle. My handle is a little more ergonomic and curved.

Same here. I bought mine about 6 or 7 years ago and still really like it!! I have shoulder problems and this cutter is much easier on a bad shoulder.

I really like the martelli too. Although I haven't had to change the blade in it. they do seem to last longer than Olfa blades...

Gingher is my favorite...smooth rolling mechanism and blades stay sharper longer than any I've tried.

I have two Fiskars. I love them. Changing blades takes about 1 minute, or even less.

I have Fiskars and love it, but I'm intrigued in the Martelli cutter. Now I have to go look it up.

I really would love to try one of those Martelli cutters. I have wrist issues after only two years of cutting! Owie! Doc says don't use a rotary cutter for six weeks. Right...

All I can recommend is to change your blade often. I know they're costly, but if you're putting stress on your hand or wrist it's not worth saving and using those old blades. Go buy a supply of rotary blades and always change your blade if it's not slicing through fabric like the fabric is butter. It's not worth a wrist injury or being sidelined for six weeks.

I second the Martilli cutter. I have arthritis and carpal tunnel and this cutter is a dream--no problems with my wrists/hands! Takes a while to get used to after using the other cutters but soooooooo worth it!

Just to clarify - it is not necessary to get the Martelli Mat to go with the cutter! The rotary cutters work just fine with any mat you already have. You also can use blades you have already, its just that they do offer some options of stronger blades that last longer as well as regular blades. It is best to use blades that match or have the right center hole so that the wear on the stem is O.K. There is a spring replacement available if the mechanism wears out. None of these issues should discourage anyone from using thee cutter - they are a godsend to arthritis, tendonitis, or carpal tunnel problems.

I got the Martelli mat and rotary cutter and ruler at the Knoxville show last summer. Before, I could only cut one or two fabrics (carpal tunnel) but now I can do the whole quilt at once. This is the best system I've ever used. The ergonomic design of the cutter makes cutting feel natural. Plan on getting another in Paducah, just for a stand-by, just in case. I don't ever want to be without it.
