Does the singer needles of today fit the machines of mid "30's? and it had maintence about 15 years ago, should I have it done again?

Today's regular needles fit all featherweights. Make sure you insert it with the flat side to the left and thread it from the right to the left. I'd oil and lubricate it and if it is stitching well and not growling at you, I'd say get busy and stitch.

I am a sewing machine. Please clean all the lint and fuzz balls out of my working parts. Please remove my needle plate and clean all the felted fuzz from between my teeth. When you put the needle plate back on remember to have the little finger of the bobbin holder in the right position. If there is thread wrapped around down there, take that out, as well. It may take some time, but I will work better for you afterwards. Remember to oil all the places that the book says to put a drop of oil, just make sure you use sewing machine oil. Change my needle after every 8 to 10 hours of sewing. (15 years, yikes...that hurts my feelings). If you don't feel confident doing it, YES, it is time to have me serviced.

You can use any brand needle in the older Singers but the Singer brand of needles are a tiny big different in length. It makes a difference. Measure a Singer needle to a Schmetz and you'll see. Singer makes two different quality of needles. I don't understand that at all either. One is much cheaper then the other but both have the Singer name. Singer seems to have a cheap line of everything and a high end line of everything. That's why some love the Singer products and some hate them. One is excellent, the other is crap.

Thanks for the information on needles, I'll look in the case to see if there is a old needle in it.

She has been in the closet since my mother in law passed away. I'm retired now and interested in making quilts. It was on this board that I first saw the featherweights. Thanks so much for the reply
