Why do you like a featherweight, what do you do on it, piece, quilt, free motion quilting, etc? These are the questions I need answered before I purchase one, can any one answer my questions? Thank you

I haven't quilted on mine but it works beautifully for piecing. It's very portable, easy to maintain, and cute as a button.
I love old machines b/c they were made so well!
Someone else can tell you about quilting on one, I just haven't tried yet :D
Hope you get one! Mine is called Miss Kitty b/c she purrs!!!! :D:D

At this time I don't have a FW, but I have a 301A Long bed and I can free motion quilt with it.

I use mine to take to our Community Quilt days when we are stitching simple scrap quilts for the Youth Shelter, Moms and Tots program and Hospice. It has a beautiful straight stitch, is easy to pack and carry and I even have a walking foot for it so I can quilt the smaller quilts if I wish. I love it as it was the machine that I learned to sew on when I was nine.

Well, they are super cute :D . I haven't really sewn on mine, yet, because something on the plug is broken but I REALLY love my 301 which is considered the 'big sister' to the FW. It pieces really nice and even though I am making a crumb quilt, with little tiny pieces of fabric, the machine is not trying to eat the pieces.. they just feed through nice and smoothly.

I noticed the 301's are starting to sell for more on Ebay than when I got mine.
I finally got a bargain of sorts lol :D
Love my 301 !!!!!!!!

I picked up a 301 at a yardsale last year for $30.00, my hubby thought I was nuts but I couldn't resist it. I haven't had a chance to sew on it yet, I don't have room to set it up. Featherweights are terrific if you go to classes or a quilt group. They are real workhorses and don't have many problems.

Piecing only. It makes a great stitch.

As the casual quilter said..it does make a nice stitch. It really has a purring sound when sewing. Doesn't weigh alot and it is just too cute. I have a really old Singer 15-01 treadle built in 1901 that works just great too but it is only for decoration. Read all about the 221 at this site: http://singerfeatherweight221sewingmachine.com/

I just piece on mine, but it's such a pleasure.

I love the way mine stitches. Anything you can get under the presser foot it can sew through. I've sewed everything from my wedding dress to car upholstery. I take mine to classes and quilt club and if my Brother machine acts up I get out my Featherweight.

you can ALWAYS count on a Featherweight. That's why they are still around after all these years. They are made of all metal, very simply made but works like a work horse. Plus it's just fun to sew on something older than me!

Great for piecing and general sewing! Light weight and small enough to take anywhere. The best thing about it is that you can clean and service it yourself (also the 301's). I took a class about 20 years ago called "The care and feeding of your Featherweight" and unlike my Viking that has to be taken in annually to be serviced I can manage most everything on these machines myself. When it does need something it is still relatively inexpensive to have a repair man take care of. No computers or plastic parts and it will sew anything. I have been lucky enough to find 4 of them over the years and have two 301's. I really need to downsize and find a few of these new homes, but you tend to get attached to the cute little things.
