This does not look like a Featherweight to me--can anyone tell me if it is?

Is this a Featherweight

looks like a 99!

karenpatrick 09-18-2011 11:03 AM

I don't think so. the Featherweights have an arm that unfolds to the left of the needle.

Prism99 09-18-2011 11:10 AM

No. It doesn't have the hinged table to the left of the needle (model 221) or the removeable piece that makes it a free-arm (model 222).

Thanks to everyone for your posts.

hobbykat1955 09-18-2011 12:30 PM

Nope

Annaquilts 09-18-2011 12:33 PM

Definitely NOT a Feather Weight. Maybe a Singer 99 a 3/4 size machine.

blueangel 09-18-2011 01:20 PM

No it's not.

whinnytoo 09-18-2011 01:20 PM

I agree, it looks like a 99. Nice machine!

myreda 09-18-2011 01:57 PM

If it's heavy as lead, it is probably a 99.

wyosue 09-18-2011 03:04 PM

My Son-in-law bought it thinking it was a Featherweight. My Grandson said "We can give this to Gram for Christmas" and his father said "It is not high tech enough for Gram".

I really don't think I would know how to use something like that. Thanks to everyone for your comments.

My vintage singer has rock solid stitch quality. If I had to choose between that and my "high end" viking, I would probably choose the vintage.

quilter1430 09-18-2011 03:11 PM

Not a Featherweight but still a very nice machine!

Teacup 09-18-2011 03:14 PM

I just bought a 99. I need to check the wiring before I try her out, I'm doing that this week. They are supposed to be great machines.

Painiacs 09-18-2011 03:15 PM

Sorry but great machine! Work horse! Tryy it! Keep it for backup!!

Country1 09-18-2011 04:29 PM

no

quiltjoey 09-18-2011 06:33 PM

Singer 99. I have 2 of them. Works when nothing else will except for a treadle...LOL!

twinkie 09-19-2011 04:38 AM

There is a site that helps identify Singer Machines. Ironically it is called ID Singer Machines. The site for checking serial numbers to find out the model has now been removed. Does anyone know why it was deleted? All they have is the year of manufacture. Here is the link to the ID web site. You follow a step by step proceedure to determine what the model is.

Okay--he is saying it is a Featherweight 99K but what I am understanding is the 99K is not a Featherweight, correct?

Charlee 09-19-2011 03:16 PM

A 99 or 99K is not a Featherweight, you're right there.

dunster 09-19-2011 03:17 PM

Correct. The 99K is a very good machine, and it was sweet of him to think of you, but it is definitely NOT a featherweight.

wyosue 09-19-2011 03:18 PM

Thanks, I don't think I will convince him that he does not have a Featherweight.

Charlee 09-19-2011 03:28 PM

The Featherweight weighs in at about 11.2 pounds. It has a "table" that folds down from the machine to form part of the bed. It's tiny, like the 99, but the 99 outweighs the Featherweight by a BUNCH!

Oh...and I'd take that 99 over any high tech machine out there! ;) For ANY kind of stitching...there are attachments available that will let you do about anything you want with a straight stitch machine.

wyosue 09-19-2011 03:49 PM

He is willing to sell it to me for $250 plus shipping

deedum 09-19-2011 03:53 PM

Looks like a 99, they sure are cute!

Teacup 09-19-2011 03:58 PM

$250 is HIGH. If you want a 99, keep looking.

Think that is kinda high, I paid $25.00 for mine and it came in a cabinet :)

dunster 09-19-2011 04:05 PM

They're right, $250 is very, very high for a 99. You could probably find one more in the $50 range.

wyosue 09-19-2011 05:07 PM

Thanks--I know it is high and I really don't want or need another sewing machine but he thinks it is a Featherweight and that he can get that much for a Featherweight. Either that or he thinks his mother-in-law (me) would pay that kind of money to him--LOL

dunster 09-19-2011 06:13 PM

It sounds like maybe he "got took" and doesn't want to admit it.

No, no, no!!! Waaayyyy too much for a 99!!! Plus, it is heavy, so shipping will be expensive too (and packaging, as machines are often damaged during shipping because they need special packaging).

$250 plus shipping would be an okay price for a featherweight in that condition, but not for a 99.

Mitch's mom 09-19-2011 07:08 PM

He is kidding you about the 250.00 isn't he? As everyone said, it is a Singer 99, a 3/4 size machine that is the same as a Singer 66 in every way except the bed length. It even uses the same belt.

misscarol 09-19-2011 07:09 PM

I love your shirt!! GO BUCKS!!!

quiltjoey 09-19-2011 07:37 PM

It is definitely not a Featherweight which is a more dainty, lightweight (11 # hence the name) machine. When you pick up the two machines, there's no comparison in which is which...

twinkie 09-19-2011 08:36 PM

Way too much for that machine. We collect them and the most I have paid including shipping was $76.00. I think his price is high because he thinks he has a Featherweight which it is NOT. The 99 weighs about 17-18 pounds. Good Luck.
