I had some authentic 1930's sacks that I made into a quilt. I used a pattern of flowers in baskets. I named my quilt ""Flour Baskets."

PenniF, the colors are sharp and pretty. I have enjoyed all the stores about the feed and flour bags!

I still have some. Let's petition for their return!

My mom made a lot of our clothes from feed sacks. Remember them well.

I too have come across a few of my grandmothers and I loathe to cut it up for something but then I thought why not a wall hanging using these since they are small pieces . Thanks for the reminder

Wow Ladies....i never dreamed of the response when i fist posted this .... attached is a photo of my Aunt Mary - from 1945 - wearing a feed sack dress that my granddad (her dad) made the pattern for - and my Gram (her mom) made. She said she remembers it still - the background was torquoise.

Wow, how cute. Your Gram reminds me of a young Natalie Woods

Great feed sack stories from everyone. I remember my mother telling me about all of her dresses and undergarments being made from feed sacks. She grew up in the depression, had 8 sisters and one brother. There was not any money for store bought yardage. Also she would mention how exciting it was to have her very own new dress and not a hand-me-down.
