A few people were making them -

Do you remember/know what worked and what did not work on them?

Is Velcro welcomed or should it not be used?

What size(ss) worked well?

were there any fabrics that worked better than others? Such as flannel or denim for the back instead of regular quilting cotton? Silkies or coarse textures?

i'm thinking about making some, but I want to put things on them that "work" - and avoid things that don't.

Mine were given to nursing home, so I didn't get to see responses. ai think velcro might work if you stitched the 'grabby' part down and attached just one end of the softer side--so they can clost andopenor put on a flap so it can be opened and closed. I find that a size fits the lap (12-15") is a good size and flannel backing keeps from falling off. All kinds of different textured fabrics for ''feel'', zippers, buttonholes and strongly attached buttons. It won't be delivered to my mom until next week, so no feedback. I put flannel on the back and that tested fine on my lap for non-slippage. I put the two pieces of velcro on just for texture, not to use really... but i like the idea in the above reply of sewing it as a flap to prevent loss.

We also did this in our Guild last year. The real hit was a small, squeaky (kind of flat) ball that we enclosed in a square - so when they pushed on that square, it squeaked. Another square enclosed small bubble wrap. You can kind of follow the Quiet Books for little children, too. There are good ideas - ex: counting with beads attached to ribbon, shoe strings, button holes and securely attached buttons. Anything that has a 'feel' to it.
