Filling Max Width

Good evening,

I apologize now because I'm new to quilting and don't know all the term.
Also, I'm sure you see that english is not my language.

I'm new to sewing in general and decided to make a quilt.
It's been hard but it coming well and I'm very happy with it.

I'm no putting together the top, back and stuffing.
I only notice after 3 hour drive to the store that my stuffing (100% cotton) says max between stitches is 4".

My quilt is made of 9" and 4 1/2" blocks.
Do anyone think it would be ok to just stitch at 4 1/2"?
I have wash/dried the cotton already so I think it has shrunk.
What would be the worse case if I don't do 4" or less?

Merci for your comment!

Yes, I would say it is. I've done that often with no problems. one usually lays a hand flat and the span of your fingers closed together is about 4 inches. The quilting area is a suggestion for best batting versus fabric reaction when washed. Good luck, have fun.

Thank you.
This is what I thought but I though I ask first.

Bienvenue Sprocket!!
in the North, from QuiltE in the South (of Ontario) :)

Agree ... I am sure you will be safe with 4-1/2" instead of the 4".

Bonne Chance! with your quilt ... I'll be looking forward to seeing it!

Hello Sprocket. Your English is just fine. Please feel welcome. We enjoy hearing from all neighbors and quilting friends.

I concur...4.5 is close enough. I break the rules all the time.

When I first began learning, quilting more densely than that was more than I could commit to. Years later, I have gone back and filled in on some of my oldest ones in order to reinforce them as they aged. It is Ok to do what you can and learn as you go. Have fun!

Welcome to the Quilting Board from SE Michigan! You should be just fine smoothing it out and pinning then stitching every 4" or so. The main thing is to have as much fun as possible. We all started where you are right now and we all move along at our own pace. Happy Quilting!!
