Finally did it.

Somehow, I ended up with a half a laundry basket of precut squares - 2 inches, 2 1/2, 3, and 4 inch squares. I have always wanted to do a postage stamp quilt, but putting together thousands of squares was intimidating to me.
Finally, I decided it's never gonna get done if I don't get it started. So, one day, I separated all the squares into like sizes. Although it is not going to be a "traditional" PS quilt, one day I sewed all of 2 inch squares together.. The next day, I made chains of 3 and 4, and then chain of 7. Another day, I sewed the strips into blocks of 7 strips (49 in each block), which comes out to about 10 1/2 inch blocks..
This makes it much more manageable for me, and have about 40 of the 81 blocks done. I try to sew 1-2 blocks every day, press them and put them aside. At this rate, I think I'll be done maybe by end of next month. Even if it doesn't get done by then, at least I finally got it started.

You make it sound fun and do-able! Makes me want to do that someday. Need to get my scraps under control first.

Sounds like you found a groove to get your postage stamp quilt accomplished. Keep up the good work and we look forward to seeing your progress.

My favorite memory of staying with my Grandma was her postage stamp quilt. She would try to tuck me in under that quilt and I just had to find the three that were alike. No matter how hard I tried, I'd fall asleep hunting. Hers was one inch by 3/4 of an inch.

I have started cutting my squares from my scraps (1 1/2"). Will I ever get it done?
Battle Axe I love your memory of your Grandma. My "Mom" (grandmother) is still my inspiration and I think of her every day.

Yes! How do we eat an elephant? Some projects seem overwhelming to me to start, but dividing them into smaller tasks really helps. Way to go! I hope you show pictures of your finished project!

Great!! You are on a roll! I can't wait to see the finished top, then the finished quilt. You can knock this one out sooner than you think!
