Finally Found What I was looking for?

1 Attachment(s)
So as some of you know I am a hand quilter, and hate writing on my quilts with chalk if I have to I will but I was trying to find an easier way to put my designs on and quilt them. Well here you go finally I found something I can quilt through and look nice. Its called
[h=1]Sulky 12-Inch by 9-Yard Solvy Water Soluble Stabilizer Roll
[/h]I couldn't believe it I put the the design on and was able to quilt trough it just fine and no taring it devolves with water. I was able to get it at amazon and its just wonderful.

Thanks for posting this great information! Do you think this could be used for machine quilting also? If so, what a great product to have available.

oklahomamom2 06-19-2015 04:01 PM

It says used for quilting, so I'm sure you can the instructions say you can use something to stick it on the fabric such as glue stick or pens to place it on the quilt to keep it from moving I used clear tape. Just make sure when you put the design on let it dry before sewing threw it I let mine dry over night but a couple of hours should be alright too. Oh ya if you cats put it up high, my cat kept trying to smell of it and mess with it while it was on the kitchen table.

Yes you can use Sulky products for machine quilting! There are several different kinds - some you can pin or baste on, others cling to the fabric. The Sticky Fabri-solvy comes on sheets you can run thru the printer, then you peel off the paper and it clings to the fabric while you quilt. It washes out when you are done. I just used it on a couple of quilts and was very pleased with it. It's great for a special project, but is a little pricey for everyday use. Some people do the same with glad cling wrap, but this washes out vs. having to pick the bits of cling wrap out between the stitches.

I love this stuff! Yes, it works for machine quilting. I actually thread basted mine in place.

Will have to give it a try. Thanks.

I looked this stuff up, looks great ... but confused.

In your pic, it looks like the stabilizer is red, but the sulky page only lists white.

Or is it your fabric that is red??

When you say run it through a printer, do you mean inkjet printer or laser printer, or does it work with both? I've read about many techniques that don't work on a laser printer because of the heat, and I'm wondering if anyone's used this product with a laser printer.

That is terrific that you found something that would work for you.

I use the lightweight Sulky water soluble for my machine embroidery. I have drawn on it successfully. I am not sure about putting it through a printer, the lightweight is pretty flimsy. The heavier weight might work in a printer, but I think it might be more difficult to stitch through in handwork. Watch for the rolls of it at Joanns, and with a coupon you would get a good deal.

I just looked & it is $9.65/roll on Amazon.com and $19.95 @ JoAnn's

I only get it when I have a half off coupon. How is the shipping on Amazon? You have to include that too.

If you have Prime at Amazon, shipping is free.

grann of 6 06-21-2015 06:16 AM

It's not worth $90 a year for me to get free shipping. I don't do much shopping through Amazon. If you do, it is a good value.

Thanks for the tip, I will have to try this in the future, when I can get back to quilting again. I's been 6 weeks since my shoulder replacement surgery, so I hope the Dr. gives me the go ahead this week when I see him again. Fingers crossed.

They have it at Wal Mart on line for under $10.00, cheaper than Amazon and it will come right to your local store.

annette1952 06-22-2015 12:55 AM

I use it all the time for machine embroidery so "yes" you could machine quilt with it also. I love the fact that it disappears with a little water so you have no picking little pieces of other stabilizers. Great stuff! It is a little pricey though but just stock up when it is on sale or with a coupon.

If you spend a total of $35.00, for most items you can get "free" shipping. I just put things in my "cart" on Amazon.com and then when I have $35.00 worth of items, make the purchase. My coffee is even cheaper on Amazon. Also, if you put items in your cart & just leave them there, sometimes the price goes down. You can move items to "save for later" and play with the $ amounts, so that you never have to pay for shipping. I "do not" pay for Prime. I always check Amazon when I buy something, as they are usually cheaper or the same as Walmart.

I believe that it was the same price at Walmart as Amazon when I Googled it the other day. I don't have a Walmart close to me, so the "free" shipping from Amazon.com is a better deal for me as it comes to my door. I never pay for shipping on Amazon. You just have to spend $35.00 and you get free shipping.

Very great idea!

Thank you for the info. I hand quilt and don't like marking my tops either. At times I work hard to get the light pencil marks out. This is a great alternative.
