Finally mastered flying geese - nothing can stop me now!
I had the worst time making flying geese. Just couldn't do it, nohow. Mental block. Crooked wings every time. Just looking at that smarmy Ricky Timms video where he makes an entire quilt of geese made me want to curse.
Then I got Deb Tucker's wing clipper, followed all her instructions to the letter, and yahoo! I just made EIGHTY! of the little critters and they are all spot-on perfect (well maybe except for one or two off < 1/8"). Starting with 1 4 1/2" square and four 2 1/2" squares to make 4 sets of little geese without cutting tiny triangles. Now I can do this at will, so I can face all sorts of patterns requiring them without dread. Not only can I line them up in a border, I can put them in stars. Lovely stars! I feel like I just took the training wheels off my bike and went for a ride to the park! Thanks for letting me share! :) :):p:thumbup::D |
Congratulations! It's great when something finally "clicks" isn't it

I too am loving flying geese lately! It's my favorite at the moment and I have been doing all sorts of mini quilts and now working on a couch quilt made of flying geese. I have never heard of the wing clipper and will have to check it out.
The sky's the limit with flying geese!! (pun intended) LOL |
Love those light bulb moments!

Gotta love those Deb Tucker rulers. Every one I have used makes things so easy.

congrats... can't wait to see what you create with them

First time I have heard of the wing tip tool. Just watched the video - have seen the method before but not the tool. Thanks for sharing.
