I just did this pattern too, and had trouble figuring it out. It was worth it though!

It's done with strip sets. Depending on the size of your strips, you can decide how to make whatever size you want. Strip sets need to be at least 2-1/2 times longer than 1/2 the width of your spinning star. In other words, a 40" strip set that is 8" wide will give you one-fourth of a 30" or so spinning star.
