Finding I'm Not Too Crazy About Quilt As You Go

I'm in the process of making a nine patch using FMQ and quilt as you go. I loved quilting the individual blocks. However I have found that the binding strips between the blocks are too narrow. I'm going to have to add more border to make the quilt large enough. Has anyone made adaptations to the binding size?

Have never done a quilt that way but like anything else in quilting, there are no rules. If you want wider strips then make them wider! It is your quilt.

I do a lot of strip piecing quilt as you go for Linus. I usually allow 1 1/2" all the way around the backing and trim it later if I need to. It might waste a few inches of fabric, but it allows me to make wider bindings in the front. As sewmary said, there are NO rules!

Jenniky did a tutorial about how to add wider sashing when doing QAYG. Lots of good info there.

This gal's tutorial on QAYG has really wide binding between the blocks so I think you can make it whatever size you want.

She does awesome instruction videos and you can subscribe so every time she makes a new one you can be notified. She doesn't talk a lot, she gets right to the point.

You can - for instance, in Sharon Pederson's book, I think one quilt has a 2 inch binding strip - which is then quilted.
