Finding matching fabric

Does anyone know of a fabric company that will try to match fabric from a scrap that is sent to them? I heard of one years ago that would do this but I cannot remember which company it was. I decided to change how I was putting a border on a quilt and do not have enough of the fabric to finish it. I need to match a solid maroon/garnet color that I started using in the sashing of blocks in the body of the quilt and blocks in the border. I can’t find anything close in my LQSs. Thank you for suggestions.

Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question about a fabric company that matches fabric.

I do have a few suggestions for you to consider:
You can contact Spoonflower to see if they would be able to make fabric to match your color from a scrap. I know they make custom fabrics.
Don't forget that you can use the back side (wrong side) of some fabrics to see if the color matches.
Lastly, I have a friend that dyes fabric when she can't find what she wants in the store. She has gotten spot on to matching one fabric she ran out of. Best of luck to you!

Kind of a novice when thinking outside the quilt box. Can’t help with the name of the mfg. Couple of ideas if they would work. Post a picture of the fabric, maybe another poster could help. Or would your quilt look alright with complementary tone fabric inserts? Accent pieces? Might add interest. That always gives the quilt a level of complexity with harmony. Just some ideas that popped in my head. Sorry you have run out, bummer. But do salvage it. Don’t let it become a UFO!

can't imagine a company that would have the resources to do that and then there is the dye lots thing.
Many groups now ban posting images of wanted fabrics because there are so many of them I guess, but as a result there is of course a group on facebook :) without the selvedge innformation it would be much more difficult

As far as I know posting pics of fabric is not banned here. You could post a pic and see if anyone has it in their stash.

A fabric company, meaning a manufacturer? Or a quilt shop?
I'm with Kalama, I can't imagine manufacturers having the resources for that. Quilt shops, on the other hand, are a whole different story. I can't think of a single quilt shop that I've been in that wouldn't do that for a customer.

Another vote for Spoonflower - check with them. Or, you could check with a few fabric shops and see if you can send them a sample, for matching.

I would ask at the LQS if they have a color card for Moda or another solid line. You might be able to get close if you know the color number of a close fabric. Dye lots change. I'm guessing they could only order bolts but, you might be able to find yardage online.

You could try missingfabric.com. You send them a picture of the fabric you are looking for and they put it on their website. Anyone who has it or knows where to get it can contact you directly.

I would love to see a picture of your quilt posted on this thread. You may get some really good ideas/thoughts on finishing it. Also, some crayons for color closeness would be helpful.

Thank you for your responses. Here is a picture of the quilt top I have been trying to find additional fabric for the block border. I found the fabric that is lying on top that might look ok. I will cut it smaller (1.5”) to better fit the big blocks.

I would try taking a picture of the fabric and then using Google's Image Search.
