Hi, I have quilted sporadically over the years. But, I want to improve techniques, try new things, I have mitered a little but need more guidance to iron out any kinds. I have been exposed to FMQ and want this at the top of my Priority List. I'd like to do some applique. I would like to learn how to add texture so as to give the look of two and three dimensional projects. Like arts type quilts, but haven't done either. How to lay out, how to create illuision of dimension. Wish my mentor could be from Texas so we could get together.Will be starting a Jo's Little Quilt in May and am currently working on two diff colorways of same pattern. I would like to make an effort at hand piecing, too. Thanks!!

Is that a small town you are in? I believe that is the town my friends from church moved to several years ago. I am not much of an art quilter but love to help people learn to love quilting. I have two groups where I serve as a Quilty mentor currently. One meets weekly and the other all day one Saturday a month and that is actually tomorrow. I am new here but feel free to contact me anytime.

You have a wonderful Quilt Guild right in New Braunfels, check with them. I've been to their Christmas quilt show a couple times when we've been in the area, very talented women. Good luck!

New Braunfels was much smaller about ten years ago....think it is around 50,000 population. Thanks for offering to answer questions. I have one for you........any chance you do applique?
My fancy stitch machine (buttonhole stitch) is in the shop where it has been since November waiting on part from Sweden. I am guessing they have to make the metal, then the part, etc...!!!! Also, I gave my printer away recently and haven't replaced it.....still researching to find what I want.

Well, after visiting around the site, gathering info, I am feeling much better about making an attempt at hand applique. Found a couple to try.....so should be fine! Thanks for all who helped with your suggestions and feedback. I had a class about thirty years ago.......first and last try. lol But, now I am ready to go for it.

Glad you found us. Be sure to get involved in any quilting groups in your area. They will be able to help you in person. You can always ask questions here and it helps if you can include pictures. I'm glad you have the Jo's Little Quilt to start in May. I always like having another project to look forward to. It helps me to sometimes work to get my current project completed. Thanks, Pam! Yep, guess how I spent my Saturday night?? Researching applique methods......lol It definitely helped jog my memory about my very long ago applique "class". I feel like I'll be able to finish my little project tomorrow.........made a template out of plastic tonight and will file any corners off before transfering shape to fabric. Hope I'll be posting about......"I finished".....and a pic tomorrow night. OH, the pressure. lol
