That is absolutely beautiful! Love the colors. I would have a hard time giving this one up but if you have a granddaughter that loves orange she will really like it. You are lucky to have such fun stash!

ckcowl 01-30-2012 11:10 AM

i bought the majority of the fabrics for this (1 1/2 yd pieces) while on vacation 3 years ago in Florida at the time i was thinking about some sort of sunrise/sunset quilt- those fabrics have just sat on the shelves every since- once in awhile i would pull them out & look at them and just couldn't figure out what to do with them- would put them back- then when i started pulling the pinks i found that the darker -sunrise fabrics- seemed to me to work together well- and i just 'thought' a french braid of a bargello would be fun- so off i went :) finally using those fabrics (which by the way are Moda Classics Marble Botanicals (in case anyone want to try to find some of them)
once i finally had a plan it all went together pretty quickly- finding a good assortment of black & whites was a challenge- but i made it work- i was determined to not spend any money.
i will show pictures again when it is actually finished/quilted & bound.
thanks all for all the compliments! I just love it when a plan comes together- and i made it during a really gray/gloomy week in January- it really brightened my sewing room :)

Peggy Jeanne 01-30-2012 05:04 PM

I think that it is gorgeous!

MdmSew'n'Sew 01-30-2012 05:09 PM

This is beautiful, I would ignore the quilt police who told you the color wasn't pink enough and see what your dgd thinks of it - she may love it ... can't hurt to ask, right?

ging10ging 01-30-2012 05:21 PM

Very pretty colors and pattern. Sue

Happy Tails 01-31-2012 04:20 AM

Awesome quilt. Looks like a very "happy quilt" makes people smile and certainly a 12 year old!!!

toadmomma 01-31-2012 04:52 AM

Very pretty , glad it is finished so it can be enjoyed.

roadrunr 01-31-2012 05:05 AM

It's a very pretty quilt and good for your for shopping your "stash"! That makes it even more enjoyable. I think the colors go well with each other. Why don't you show it to her and see if she likes it? If she doesn't like it, you can tell her you'll make her a different one and then keep it for yourself or give it to somone else!

kuntryquilter 01-31-2012 05:06 AM

I love it. I have all the fabrics for one of these quilts. As soon as I get some UFO's finished I plan to give it a try.

emsgranny 01-31-2012 05:08 AM

WOW-Love it as I am sure your grand daughter will. I agree that its not hot pink or pink that your niece wanted...You made the comment that your grand daughter was "a child after your own heart" - maybe when the colors spoke to you you were actually channeling her lol Good luck on the nieces quilt - You did a wonderful job using from your stash - something I need to do lol Thanks for sharing

BeverlyH 01-31-2012 05:14 AM

This is a beautiful quilt! I can't wait to make a French braid. I just bought 2 books on them.

sparkys_mom 01-31-2012 05:21 AM

It's gorgeous - you deserve to pat yourself on the back! :)

jetmaio 01-31-2012 06:01 AM

I wouldn't have been brave enough to put those colors together BUT they worked out great. It's a happy quilt and your GD will be so happy to have it. Love it.

Yooper32 01-31-2012 06:05 AM

That is an absolute stunner. If you had just described it to me and I had not seen the picture, I would have thought, hmmm? Doesn't sound like anything I would like. Just goes to show...don't pre-judge until you actually see.

glorcour 01-31-2012 06:56 AM

Hmmm - black and white and red - very dramatic. Like it a lot

Grace MooreLinker 01-31-2012 06:58 AM

OH it set me to humming also , the colors are so vibriante (Missed spell) I love it must be the Indian blood that the colors trigger.
good job.

fmhall2 01-31-2012 07:20 AM

I agree that it is more orange than pink on my computer, but I love it anyway. It shines and sparkles. If it were mine, I wouldn't even consider giving it to someone else. I'd keep it on my bed.

urgodschild2 01-31-2012 08:24 AM

I love it. It is beautiful.

pkelly1947 01-31-2012 08:36 AM

collady 01-31-2012 08:42 AM

I may have to steal your color choices to cut back my orange stash! I really like it.

probles 01-31-2012 09:22 AM

WOW! Great job. I love this pattern, but you made it better using the colors you chose.

Mad Mimm 01-31-2012 09:32 AM

It is lovely and the orange is so bright and zippy! Great job!

fireworkslover 01-31-2012 10:01 AM

I have some of that fabric with the white swirls on black. I used mine in a OBW. I still have some left tho. Gorgeous colors you picked for your French Braid. Like it lots.

indymta 01-31-2012 10:21 AM

Your quilt is beautiful. If I wanted pink and black and saw this quilt I would jump at the chance to get it. It wouldn't matter that it wasn't so pink, the quilt is just stunning and that's what would be first in my thoughts.

jme 01-31-2012 10:25 AM

Ooh, I love it!!!! Great job!

quiltmau 01-31-2012 10:34 AM

wish I could 'miss it' that well!! I love it! and orange is not my colour. I think it is one of the prettiest I have seen! Sorry your 'friends' didn't like it. Jealous maybe?? And out of stash?? So great!!

quiltsRfun 01-31-2012 11:01 AM

Beautiful! Love the placement of the colors. It gives a sunburst effect. Great job all around.

Clarice29 01-31-2012 11:09 AM

I think it is beautiful!

blondeslave 01-31-2012 11:31 AM

Gorgeous cheerful quilt!

sharin'Sharon 01-31-2012 12:58 PM

Your quilt is beautiful. Orange is my favorite color and is not overdone in this quilt. A French Braid quilt is definitely on my to do list...already have the book. Thanks for sharing.

Wanabee Quiltin 01-31-2012 01:08 PM

As I was reading about the quilt, I was thinking that someone probably was color blind. Now that I have seen the quilt, yeah, it is more orange/red. But HOLY COW, it's absolutely beautiful. Your work is fantastic !!! I can't imagine your niece not wanting this !! You did such a good job on it, everyone here on the board wants it. Keep up the good work, and be sure and show us if you do a pink one next time.

southernmema 01-31-2012 01:19 PM

WOW!! Your quilt is stunning! Your work is amazing! Great job!

ckcowl 01-31-2012 02:09 PM

wow- just read through all of your comments---you guys are GREAT! thank you for all the kudo's!
it does just SING to me- everytime i unfold it and show someone it makes me happy all over the place.
i'm (almost) sure my neice would like it-given the opportunity- but i am going to save it for my granddaughter---who will really really love it- because it is her colors-
it just means i have to (try again) on making a pink quilt- really shouldn't be a big deal- i like pink- we shall see what i come up with :)
anyway---
french braids are really easy quilt patterns- (BEGINNER FRIENDLY) any of you could make one too :)
sometimes the simplest patterns can make the most stunning end product --- be adventurous- jump in and make one :)
for me one of the greatest things about quilting is that (gasp) from the person viewing a new quilt for the first time-
i'm a (big- showoff!) and love taking people's breath's away :)
and this quilt just makes me smile- i look forward to getting it quilted - just working on it some more should just make a great day!

KathyPhillips 01-31-2012 02:44 PM
