Finished Mini Dresden Plate top - need help with quilting please!!!

Okay - I just finished a small Dresden Plate top and got the binding made. Now my question - I don't know how to quilt it. Normally I just do stitch in the ditch which I do enjoy doing, but if I just stitch the lines of the sashing that won't be enough. I don't think I want to go around all the plates with SITD. Any suggestions? I even considered tieing it (not wild about that) using pastel variegated yarn - on each intersection and in the middle of each plate. If I did that I even thought of tieing it so that the yarn is hanging on the back rather than on the front. ???

My second question - I was wondering how it would look if I added a white border before quilting and binding it. If not a white border maybe a white flange with the binding. Any input.

Thanks - I don't know what we'd all do without this board - especially when you have no one handy to give input.

Sorry - I don't know how I got duplicate pictures and I tried to edit and take them off but was unsuccessful.

Love these soft colours. If it were mine, and wanting to enlarge, I would add a white 4" border, then that pretty many-coloured binding - and beautiful quilting ( in white).

How big are your squares? Will your batting allow you to just STD the sashing? I echo stitched just inside the pointed edges of my Dresden plate. Looking at it now I realize it should have more quilting. Could you do a small motif in the corner of each block and the center of each Dresden? Maybe a couple of rows of echo stitching inside each block?

Whatever you decide, it will be a great quilt. I love Dresdens and your fabric is wonderful.

Pretty top! How about stitching around the center circle and then SITD between each blade but continue the line if stitching out to the sashing. It will kind if look like a sunshine symbol from the back. Of course that will only work if you don't mind the suns rays being in different spots on each plate.
The other option would be to stitch around the center and then echo stitch (like ripples) around the Dresden Plates out to the sashing.

I would use a white sashing than the coloured binding so it could be defined, good luck.

I love the look of cross hatching. That is what hand quilters of the past use to fill in the background. Pretty pastel fabrics!
