I worked all summer on a Purple Passion quilt that was commisioned by my daughter's teacher last year. I finished the binding last night and threw it in the washer this morning. I just put it in the dryer and am so excited/nervous to see how it comes out. I love the look the dryer gives the hand-quilting.

I feel like its a "big reveal'. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I can't say I know what you're talking about in relation to quilting, but being a cross stitcher and finishing a massive project, gives me a real high! I do hope you'll share some pictures of this. Being a newbie, I need lots of inspiration.

Okay, you posted this hours ago, so surely it's out of the dryer by now! We want to see the big reveal, too. Pictures, please!

I know just what you mean. After putting in the last stitch I can't wait to see it come out of the dryer. I love the crinkly look it gets.

Is it out yet????
Still waiting.............

Congratulations! But I'm a little puzzled.....seems all you ladies wash your quilts when you finish them. May I ask why??? No one that I know who quilts in this area washes their quilts when they are finished. Have I missed something?????

dvseals 09-10-2009 06:01 AM

Dunno bout the others here but me, I wash them when done to
1. Make sure any grubbieness I might have gotten on them is washed out and
2. To make sure it doesn't fall apart ;) ;)

Colletta, is everything okay? Even if something went wrong with your quilt, we thought you would post back. Your silence is worrying.

I don't know about everyone else but I wash after completion to remove markings that I made for the quilting and the whole extra cat worth of cat hair that inevetibly adheres itself to my handiwork during the quilting process  ... And that's with constant hair removal during the process using sticky tape rollers and a rubber pet hair sponge.

Justquilting 09-10-2009 09:17 AM

I always wash it after I'm done.
First is....cause it will never look like it again .
And they might think they liked it better before they washed it.
It also gives it a crinkled look.

So this way weather they wash it once or 10 times it'll always look the same.

mawmaw 09-10-2009 09:23 AM

Gotcha ya! If it needs it.......wash it. I have always used poly batting in my personal quilts and don't usually get anything on them while making them so......no need to wash! The guild doesn't wash their charity quilts either.
