You will want to quilt on more than just the corner squares because the batting needs to be held in place inside the quilt. If it's not quilted closely enough, over time and use, the batting will lump up. The batting package should tell you how close your quilting needs to be. Any of the suggestions mentioned would work great, and still be nice and simple.

SITD or outlining squares would mean a lot of turns - not too easy. How about diagonal straight lines five inches apart - maybe in just one directionn not criss-crossing. Or because the quilt has plenty of straight lines, you could use diagonal wavy lines five inches apart.

Agree that stitch in the ditch would be an easy way to quilt, especially if it's the first time quilting on your machine. Be sure to post after-quilting pics too!

Beautiful quilt for your second one. I would echo the seams about 1/4" on everyother log. I can't do SITD for the life of me...not straight anyway, so, I echo seams about a 1/4" and I find it really makes things pop.

I'd stay away from SID its to hard to stay in the ditch. I'd follow the stair step in the red about 1/4" away from the seam. Then sew a straight line on the diagonal down the middle of the red. Doing the same in the black. The quilt has a nice modern feel to it and the straight lines would complement the modern feel. For a second quilt you did a great job!

My first several attempts at machine quilting I used my walking foot and stitched diagonal lines across the whole thing.
I think that would look great on your quilt! considering it already has the diagonal pattern in the piecing ;)
