I always hand sew the binding to the back. I like doing it and like the looks. I always have a TV on but never actually watch it. I always think and plan the next quilt I'm going to make.

I haven't done many quilts where I don't hand stitch the binding to the back. At times it seems like the quilt has grown overnight, however, I put the quilt in my lap and watch a movie or TV and before long it's done.

Hand sewing the binding is the icing on the cake. Look what you are accomplishing. Job well done when you finish.

Thread Heaven. It's a sort of waxy substance that comes in a little blue box. It helps a lot by keeping your thread from tangling. Other than that, just turn on a favorite show (gotta love DVR's) and spend a nice quiet afternoon sitting and sewing. I enjoy doing some handwork. It gives me quiet time.

Ditto on the Thread Heaven--or at least beeswax (although the Thread Heaven doesn't leave crumbs). And use some clips (either Clover or those snap hair barretts)--I use the barretts and have about75 of them ($5) which helps keep it folded and flat while I stitch. Take a break and STAND UP AND MOVE every so often.
