I am in the midst of things for charities. Warming Center...etc and have had to end starting new quilts and down to finishing those and making pillows for this year. I happened upon yards of nice fleece fabric but all different sizes. Couple of large ones and an assortment of smaller sizes. Of course, the cutest ones are the smallest so don't really want to do the fringe cutting around the edges like I normally would. Some smaller pieces would make nice scarves. I have a mini serger I picked up somewhere back but haven't even figured out how to thread it yet...the kind that was sold on TV. I don't want to add binding, either. In other words. I am looking for the simplest, quickest way to finish fleece edges. Zig zag on my machine didn't work our too well. Any ideas? Thanks!

For small children I use 1 1/2 yards, Take a small bowel and round the corners and the turn the edge over a 1/4 inch or so and use a button hole stitch around the edge. I do this all by hand. I use DMC number 5 in a matching color. I have done one blanket like this in one afternoon.

you can buy a "Skip Stitch" rotary cutting blade that puts small holes, evenly spaced, in the fleece. Then you crochet through the holes. Google Skip Stitch Blade for ordering info and directions.

Regular fleece fabric doesn't have to have the edges finished, but sweatshirt fleece does. You can sew just a pretty design
about 1/2 inch from the edge to make it look cool and don't do anything to the edge at all. You could turn the edge under 3/8 inch or so and sew it down on the machine.

This fleece was originally purchased by a lady who made dog coats so I would assume it is shirt fleece except for one large heavier piece. I had planned on washing it afterward but maybe I should do that first to see if it rolls? There's a lot to do and it's getting cold in Oregon!
