Finishing Hexie quilt?
1 Attachment(s)
I would like to add black borders to this GFG quilt. (The rows are still being hand stitched together) Do I applique the Hexie center to a large piece of black fabric, or applique each side to a border piece-probably 3” wide? And how do I handle the border seams? Thank you!!

Lovely hexies! You can do it either way but depending on how you want to finish your edge may be the deciding factor.

The black background really makes the flowers stand out.
I like the look. |
It seems to me that it might be easier to sew to the borders...less bulky. Your Hexies are so pretty. I so enjoy sewing Hexies!

Lovely quilt! I would either make the border out of black hexies and half-hexies, or applique it to border strips. Appliqueing to a large piece of fabric would also work, but a lot of fabric would be hidden in behind the GFG part.

I"m doing my hexie quilt with a border of black hexies. Then I will stitch around it and cut the edges off so I have hexies and half hexies on the edge.

Have only made 1 hexie quilt - still not finished quilting the border & binding - and appliqued them to a border of about 6". Some will be hidden behind the outer half of the hexies & is cut away. You can choose to join strips to top/bottom, then to each side, or create a mitred corner before stitching those areas down.

I applique to border strips. I do applique in the border, so use wider strips. Depends on how I decide to finish it.
