I want to make a quilt for my fireman son-in-law. I bought material with fire hats but would like to locate a cotton panel, appliques, patterns, anything that would help me make this quilt. I have no idea where to start.

I haven't done a quilt but I did a big diaper tote for my fireman nephew last year. I used the fireman's hat fabric, as well as firetrucks, dalmations and a red fabric with yellow flames. You can fine all kinds of things online for doing searches for the fabrics, appliques, patterns, etc. Good luck!

Try colouring books for good applique patterns for firehats, etc.

I made a fireman quilt and gave it to our volunteer fire dept. I bought 5 different fireman ands fire fabrics and made a Trip Around the World using the pattern on the A.E. Nathan site called Porecelain Around the World. Turned out great. I used flame fabric and fireman fabric.

I posted a picture of the quilt I made. Look under search and go to the one that says "My Fireman around the world quilt top"
