First Catalog

OMG! I think I died and went to heaven! My very first fabric catalog came today: Hancocks of Paducah- Summer 2013. I never knew these catalogs existed before I read a QB post. So now, instead of working and getting ready for a new job, I am drooling over the fabrics.

quiltstringz 05-22-2013 10:40 AM

OK step away from the catalog. If you don't get ready for your new job who is going to pay for all of that fabric that you now want!

feline fanatic 05-22-2013 11:26 AM

My DH calls it quilting porn.

ManiacQuilter2 05-22-2013 12:14 PM

Yes, I find it very enjoyable to look at what is available from Hancock's but their sale fabric can ONLY be found on their website. With living in Southern California, I find M&L the best quilting store west of the Rockies and we are lucky to live close by. Put the catalogue down and start concentrating on your new job so you can make the money to go to M&L Fabrics!!

That is the same phrase that was used in my house! I think my other half looks at it more than I do!

I love getting fabrics. Since I want to use up what I have. Not buying any of the gorgeous fabrics makes me a stronger Woman. OH YEAH !!!

nygal 05-22-2013 01:38 PM

Yes, their catalog is a wonderful inspiration to get busy quilting and spend money too.

My DD lives in Paducah - the home of Hancock's of Paducah - and she actually knows the owners - the Hancock's. Anyway, they say that some women, coming to their store for the first time - actually walk in the door and start to cry!!!

Sing it again, Sister. You'll probably be okay until you put the catalog and your credit card in the same room------------then it's "Katie bar the door" time.

I remember the first time I walked into the store. I said "OMG, I've just died and gone to heaven". A clerk just happened to be passing by, laughed and said thats what they all say.LOL

I ordered a nearly $100 order from Connecting threads and was disappointed that it didn't come with a catalog! How do you get on the lists for these catalogs?

I've cut out pictures of patterns for reference and also cut out pictures of fabric to glue on to scrabble squares to make necklaces. Love that catalog!

When my granddaughter was little she would cut out the fabric squares from the catalog and glue them to paper to make her quilt. She would stay focused for a long time arranging the squares just right. She would cut the squares and make hsts. I use the catalog pages to make the folded paper bags do hold small door prizes and secret pal gifts.

Fabric catalogs are quilter's porn. I went to the Quilt Show in Paducah in April and poured over the Hancock's catalog before arriving; I knew what I was looking for when I went in (the store was jam-backed with shoppers but everyone was laughing, smiling, and having a good time).

Danger is when you have the credit card number, expiration date, and security code memorized (ask me how I know)!!

I have almost talked my family into taking a road trip there, we all drool over their catalogs, I calculate that it would take 13 hours to drive there.

That is what I call it as well....Right now the porno [Hancock' catalog] is on my kitchen table and I have gone over it several times. My hot little fingers caress all the pretty pictures and my brain stores away the ideas...sometimes I even cut out quilt pictures to pin to my idea board...Quilting Porn it is.

Wildernessties 05-24-2013 07:45 AM

Wow! I never knew there were fabric catalogs out there! It's probably a good thing, too. I already spend too much time looking at fabric on line. If I had a catalog, too, I wouldn't even have time left to sew!!

oldtisme 05-24-2013 08:01 AM

Thank you x 4

Guess you and your computer need to stay in separate rooms. tee hee

maryellen2u 05-26-2013 04:59 PM

Would it be taking my fabric addiction too far to book a flight to M&L Fabrics from Oregon. They look wonderful but they have no online shopping. What am I to do?!!
