First Quilt for the New Year.

I am working on my first quilt for the new year (yes, I started before the new year but not by much) - I've had Lori Holt's Quilty Fun book for the last year along with some fun fabrics - finally started her sampler quilt shown on the cover - I love it. I am surprised how small the blocks finish - its really challenging getting those small pieces sewn together - but I am really enjoying it. I decided to start the new year with a quilt for myself - I never get to keep my quilts - usually made for someone else or commissioned for someone. I hope this will keep me from getting that Holiday slump that I usually experience this time of year.
So, what is everyone working on for the New Year?

I did the Tractor block pattern that Lori posted on her site and I really loved her piecing instructions. Have fun with your sampler!

I just got the book a month or so ago. Did you see her quilt-a-long on Instagram? Super cute. This is in my plan for next year.

I am working on a quilt for a friend now. She picked and purchased the fabrics and pattern - it is a gift for her niece. This is the first one I am doing for someone like this - and the last. I don't find it fun to work on something that is not really "me". My hobby should be something I like to do - not something I just want to get done :) Anyway - I should start a list of all the quilts I want to make in 2015. It will be a long one!!

Your first quilt of the new year sounds great! I'm working on Jenny Doan's Disappearing Hourglass #2. I hope to complete all the blocks tomorrow so I can start sewing everything together. I'm excited about quilting in 2015!

My first quilt is placemats for a friend...ha! Then I want to do a square in a square and Judy's Mystery Train here on QB which starts January 10.

I'm working on placemats for our house that I hope to finish up this weekend. Then my first quilt may be a donation quilt for Project Linus. I found some really fun teen girl fabric at my LQS on year end clearance for $5 a yard and decided it would make a good Linus quilt. After that I have a long list of projects like most everyone else.

I am working on a fairy quilt for my sister - combining 2 patterns for lap quilts - making a queen size. I enjoy making my own patterns, we will see how this turns out.

I'm working on a baby quilt for my new granddaughter who is due to be born in a few weeks. I should say frantically working....was busy making Christmas gifts before.

I've started an Around the World in greens and blues, I'm almost halfway done on it.

I am working on my first chevron quilt. The fabric was hard to place. I started with dark aqua, then got lighter, then added brown, then more brown - well, you can see where this is going. (I end with dark brown) The other fabric is white on white and makes the brown and aqua pop. When the top is done, I will post a photo.

Looks like a fun quilt. I am going to have to get that book and start one too.

I'm working on a rag quilt that my daughter asked for. Definitely not my favorite thing to do, but I'm happy to make it for her! When she was home for Thanksgiving we went shopping to pick out the fabric. She needs it for watching her kids soccer which will start in February. She chose the colors for their soccer club. I cut it out at home and brought it along to work on in our motorhome while we are in Texas for three months. This time doing one row at a time and cutting the fringe part as I add each row, rather than waiting until it's all together and then doing all the cutting. Hoping it won't hurt my hand as much as the last one I did. So far, so good, also got the Fons and Porter rag scissors and really like them. (Joanns with a coupon, even better)

I've started making quilts for my "Quilt house", it will be 12x12, and fit over a quick shade canopy. We want to use it for our quilt show at church in Febtruary.

Now that the holidays are over, I am back to make lap quilts for charity. Hancock had fabrics 40-50% off plus an additional 20% off coupon ... so I purchased enough fabrics in Dec. to make 4 lap/wheelchair quilts to start off the new year.

Sounds like everyone is busily getting lots done!
I found some awesome flannel at Tuesay Morning right after Christmas. So got another piece at Hancocks to coordinate with and now I'm working on Judy's 7th Mystery Train Quilt for my oldest DS. Making it bigger since he wants it for his bed instead of a lap quilt. About half done so far.
