First quilt quilted!

I am so excited. I finally was able to afford to have my first quilt quilted by a pro! :D It was supposed to be for a gift but im not sure I am going to be able to give it away once I see it all done haha. :D Have you ever planned on giving a quilt for a first and loved it to much to part with it?

No, I have not been confronted with that dilemma as yet, but I haven't had a quilt quilted by a professional either. That could be a game changer!! Would love to see your quilt when you get it back. Sure hope you post a picture. :)

Yes, this has happened to me. I did go ahead and give it as planned, but I know what you mean (smile). Looking forward to seeing your pics. Thanks for sharing.

I always have someone in mind when I begin a quilt. I've given away many quilts, but I've never
thought of keeping it for myself. The thought of making a duplicate for myself has crossed my
mind, but when I see so many new designs I change my mind.

yes, several times. it happens more with the small projects than full quilts, though. I guess I feel that a large quilt 'belongs' to the giftee throughout the process... I always refer to it as [giftee's name's] quilt.

I've kept a couple lap quilts that were intended for someone else. I've never had one of my long-armed, would probably keep it if I did!

Hehe. Well it is for my mom and I know at least she appreciates and understands all of the hours upon hours spent on it so that DOES make it easier, I guess that is how we know it is a wonderful gift if we want to keep it for ourselves. :)

I actually made my first quilt for me, professionally quilted and I adore it. Brings back memories (of just last year) of the excitement of sewing, waiting for its return and the pleasure of creating that first quilt, knowing "I can do it!". I treasure its feelings every evening and Sunday morning.

Guess you will just have to get started on another one just for you. I can't wait to have one professionally quilted either.

Yes, and gave it away, then was heart sick when I saw it was in the closet and not on the bed. However, happy ending because I asked her for it and she gave it to me! Asked that I make her another one that went with her decor better. Fat chance! LOL

That is soooo funny! Understand the "fat chance" part! :)

That hasn't happened to me yet. I always make my quilts with a specific person in mind for them. In fact I've given away every quilt I've ever made, I don't have a single one for myself yet. Usually, by the time I get one finished, I'm so tired of looking at it that I have no reservations about letting it go. I did have one "professionally" quilted and I was terribly terribly disappointed with the outcome. In fact I felt ripped off and the "quilter" was not friendly at all when I pointed out all of the places that should have been quilted, especially when she used the cotton batting I gave her and it stated that it needed to be quilted every 1"-2", not every one to two feet! I won't be doing that again. I bought myself an affordably priced long arm and do my own quilting now.

I recommend keeping your first quilt and making another to give to the friend.

I only quilt my own, that way I can say I made it all myself. I have given away most of the quilts I've made.
