are you machine quilting with feed dogs, or FMQ... or are you hand quilting? When I hand quilt I usually mark with stencils.. hearts, flowers, simple things. This place has tons of stencils. http://www.quiltingcreations.com/ If you are creative browsing through these may give you some ideas. You can quilt straight lines with your machine feed dogs... I have no suggestions for FMQ as I am just going to attempt to FMQ my first quilt this week.....

Are you talking about the finishing quilting, what you do once the top is finished and sandwiched with the batting and backing? Or do you mean the actual sewing of the quilt top?

Are you ready for quilting on your quilt or looking for simple piecing patterns? A good spot for piecing patterns is to watch the youtube videos by Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Co. Another one that might be good for you is the youtube videos by Marinaldo Ferreira. If you are looking for quikting designs to stitch, a good spot to start is with Lead Day's Free Motion Quilting designs.

HI ! When you begin quilting, most of the time the simple way is to stitch in the ditch. The "ditch" is the place where two fabrics are stitched together. Here is a picture of a small mini quilt I stitched in the ditch. Hope that this helps you. We have a saying that a picture is worth a 1,000 words. Boa sorte! (Good Luck)

I suggest that you go to Quilts for Kids and see the pattern there. It's such a good beginner's piece and really is a cute quilt. It can be made any size you want it to be. Also go to quilterscache.com for lots and lots of free patterns. You can choose one that you think you can do. Good luck and Welcome to our world!
P.S. The suggestion given above about going to the tutorials at Missouri Star Quilting Co. is a great idea. |
