first time paper piecer!!!
 

I decided to learn how to paper piece by using up some of my scraps. So I went and bought Alex Andersen's Paper piecing book. Attached are my first three blocks made (granted pretty easy ones) but will expand next with pinapple blocks then kaleidoscope. Still more to make after that to make a sampler. All will be in bright scraps. What do you use to paper piece on? I am using a product called perfect piecing by June Tailor.

Beautiful work! and I love the colors. I tend to be a bit different sometimes in my techniques (and I'll admit, a little cheap) so I usually do my "paper" piecing without paper - I use a thin muslin fabric which I trace the pattern onto by laying it on top of the pattern. It gives it more stability and you don't have to pick pieces of paper out of the stitching. It gives it a nice base, just takes a little bit longer. Starching is good to help it keep its shape, too. I need to buy that book. I took a paper piecing class one time and feined a headache to leave because I wasn't following the teacher and couldn't figure it out. It seemed hard. But if there is a good book that does step by step instructions with pictures and actual blocks, I'd love to try it. Does this book have all that?

Love the blocks and the Round Tu-its. If you learn the basics of how to position the fabric, sew them and remove the paper you can do ANY paper piecing project. Check out some of Carol Doaks books. She does beautiful patterns. Once you really get the hang of it you can also make your own patterns if you see a picture you like.

Yes this book has an introduction and step by step photo instructions. You cut out your pieces first (which book tells you what size). Each block has a quilt with total amounts of fabrics to make. I am making the sampler quilt that is included in the book. My only problem with this book is it has been a bit tricky to copy the full size patterns so my copier does not cut off a piece of the pattern. I have read through the book and the instructions make since to me for all blocks without trying them.
