Fiskars Snips at HomeDepot

1 Attachment(s)
:) For several years I've been using these snips next to my sewing machine for clipping threads, corners, etc. They're so handy and easy to use. This past weekend I happened to see them at Home Depot in the gardening section. They're calling the scissors "pruning snips" and they are only $10.97. At Hobby Lobby and Joann's the regular price is $15.99 (although Joann does have them on sale right now for $9.59). The only difference I can see is that the "pruning snips" come with a plastic blade cover which the sewing snips do not have, which is a plus. Anyway, they appear to be the very same snips at a lower price at Home Depot.

Thanks. I have a pair which I use all the time. Might have to go to Home Depot and get a pair for one of my sisters who is a quilter also. Never can have too many quilt gadgets.

Home Depot is where I got mine when I made a rag quilt. Way more affordable!

Interesting. I bought mine at WalMart in the sewing department. I wonder if they have them at a lower price in gardening?

QuiltingKrazy 03-07-2012 11:38 AM

Chasing Hawk 03-07-2012 12:59 PM

I have several pairs of those scissors. I Love them. I love the fact you don't have to find the finger holes. Just pick & snip.

I put a wine bottle cork on the point of mine when not using them. The point is very sharp! I also love them very much and seldom use my scissors anymore.

Good information as always. QB is the best.

grann of 6 03-09-2012 05:24 AM

Yep! Lots of things at the Home Improvement stores that can be used in the sewing room.

Funny, I have a pair which I hardly ever use but thought I would, my favorites are embroidery stork scissors.:)

Mazda 03-09-2012 07:23 AM

I see a trip to Home Depot in my future.

solstice3 03-09-2012 07:32 AM

I think I will get a pair IF I can keep them hid from DH

sewnuts321 03-09-2012 08:28 AM

Nearly couldn't sew without these snips.

Olivia's Grammy 03-09-2012 09:17 AM

I have a pair from both places. I don't think the ones from Home Depot are as sharp. Or maybe DH used them before he gave them to me.:p

DaylilyDawn 03-09-2012 01:48 PM

I use a pair in my grooming kit . I use them at our flower show snipping brown tips off the foliage and buds that are interfering with the open flower. One year at Christmas meeting I got a pair for my gift The person who finally ended up with them was so grateful. She didn't have a pair. Last year's Christmas exchange was a yard art thing with a ball that changed color using solar energy. The year before I had put together a grooming kit and included snips to it. We have a limit of 15.00 to spend on gifts for the Dirty Santa gift exchange. Not yet sure of what I will get this year.

My husband bought some last fall on clearance, I remember the price but, not 10.97. He offered them to me, I couldn't think what I would use them for, but I think I will send him to get some now. Thanks for letting us know.

Joy PM 03-09-2012 02:52 PM

I'm on my way to Home Depot right now...REALLY!!!

Joy PM 03-09-2012 03:21 PM

WOW, just got home with my Fiskars with Micro-Tip Blades, and boy are they SHARP. Thanks for the tip.

nstitches4u 03-09-2012 03:22 PM

Thanks. That's good to know. I have two snips. I keep one by the sewing machine and one in my sewing machine case that I take to classes. Interesting that the pruning snips come with a blade cover. I bought covers for mine. I think they were about $1.50 each.

craftymatt2 03-09-2012 04:41 PM

I guess i will go and pickup a few pairs. thank you for sharing

QandE2010 03-09-2012 04:57 PM

Thanks for the tip. Mine disappeared, so off to Lowe's I go.

quiltymom 03-09-2012 05:13 PM

But at JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby you can use your 40 and 50% off coupon which makes them even cheaper!!!!Thats how I got mine

Rose Burnett 03-09-2012 05:20 PM

I love mine to cut the edges of ragged flannel quilts. It is so much easier than with regular scissors.

stchenfool 03-09-2012 05:33 PM

I have these and love them. Good price!

suzanprincess 03-10-2012 04:31 AM

Why is everyone rushing to Home Depot for these when they cost less on sale at Jo-Ann's? For the blade cover? They do latch closed when not in use don't they?

fayzer 06-10-2012 02:59 PM

What a cool idea.

Ruby the Quilter 06-10-2012 03:02 PM

Sounds like I need to take a trip to Home Depot.
