Flag with 13 stripes
 

I've looked online, and though I can find many US flag patterns, and I know I could just try to make one myself, does anyone have a link to a flag that has the proper 13 stripes?
Am I the only one that the improper number of stripes bothers? For some reason, the number of stars does not bother me, why, I don't know

That is a wonderful pattern, but I know I couldn't make it, let alone send to a wounded warrior.

I don't have a pattern, but why can't you just add 3 more stripes to that pattern and then lengthen the borders with the same amount? With other words, if you have added 3 stripes that finish 1 1/2 inches you add 4 1/2 inches finished to the borders.(Vertically, that is.) If you want to make the blue field larger, you just add shorter strips. You can do it!!!

Thank you so much for having this philosophy!!! I, too, like the US Flag to be a true representation!! JMHO!!

The 13 stripes stand for the 13 original colonies that made up the USA. I prefer to be accurate, so when I made a flag wall hanging I used 13 stripes. The stars are different since we have gone from 13 to 50 - so I guess you could make your flag with as many or as few as you want.

I love the pattern you linked to. My thought immediately was to decrease teh width of each stripe to allow for placement of the additional stripes without changing the overall dimensions of the quilt. Otherwise I would suggest that you increase the dimensions of the quilt, both width and length, by amounts equal to the additional stripes. Personally I think the quilt would look too out of whack if you just added more stripes to the length. Good luck whatever way you go.

Just make sure your blue section aligns with bottom of the fourth red stripe.



I kind of think it is funny that people think the stripes need to be accurate but don't worry about the stars. Who needs Hawaii, Alaska, Arizona, New Mexico, etc... (the last states joining the Union). It's really interesting to see how the stars were arranged with various numbers. And how there were multiple versions of the flag used at a single time- guess people couldn't agree.

I saw a flag quilt where she embroidered the Pledge of Allegiance onto the white stripes of the flag. She was able to put the whole pledge onto the flag. Amazing.
